Increasing FSRS Retention

Hello all,

For some time now I have been using an FSRS retention rate of 87% though I fear this is too low for me. I have since upped it to 91% but given that I have been using 87% for so long is there something else I am supposed to do, or will all cards be reconfigured for 91% automatically?

I am not sure if I’m meant to mess with “Reschedule cards on change” or anything else. Thank you!

When you change the FSRS desired retention from 87% to 91%, your cards will automatically use the new retention value for future reviews, but their current scheduling won’t change by default. Here’s what you need to know:

About “Reschedule cards on change”

By default, when you change FSRS parameters (including desired retention):

  • Future reviews will use your new 91% retention setting
  • Currently scheduled cards will keep their existing due dates
  • The new 91% setting will only affect cards after they are reviewed again

This default behavior (not rescheduling) is generally recommended when first adjusting FSRS settings, as enabling rescheduling could suddenly make many cards due at once.

If you want to apply the change immediately

If you want all your cards to be immediately rescheduled according to the new 91% retention:
