We’re experimenting with this new format of monthly updates to keep you in the loop with everything happening at AnkiHub.
Here’s a quick roundup of what we’ve been working on to make your study experience easier, faster, and more effective.
New Features & Updates
Add Note Types (Deck Owners Only)
Deck owners can now add new note types, create fields, and update styling — all within AnkiHub!
This gives you more flexibility to evolve your deck over time without needing to start from scratch.
We’ve revamped our sign-up flow and profile prompts to collect clearer and more detailed educational info.
Based on your feedback, we made sure to add an option in case you don’t want to share information.
This helps us better personalize your experience and support future features and partnerships.
Existing users will see a one-time prompt in Anki to update any missing info.
Smartsearch Improvements
You can now search within PPT and PPTX files! This allows you to easily find flashcards within your presentations.
You’ll now see clearer messages during file uploads, including when processing is still underway, so you’re always informed of the status.
We addressed issues that could prevent the “Add to study queue” and “Open in browser” buttons from functioning reliably.
What we are working on
Smartsearch Precision
We finished up a bunch of data science work so that we’re ready to make serious improvements to our Smartsearch algorithm.
Now, we’re experimenting with AI query rewriting and machine learning re-ranking to improve accuracy. Stay tuned for some major improvements to Smartsearch accuracy!
Smartsearch UX Tweaks
Final touches: hybrid search, rerankers, and better error messages coming soon!
FSRS Changes
We’re working on an FSRS optimization reminder for the AnKing deck. Details coming soon.
Checkout changes
We’re working on a better checkout experience to support accurate tax collection for both subscriptions and lifetime plans.
Once done, you’ll see tax breakdowns clearly and get a smoother payment experience.
That’s a Wrap!

Your post states that there is an option to change note types - I don’t think this is possible. I attempted to change the note type of a note in my deck, and I’m getting this error:
I think this may be better titled “Adding new note types.” The how-to doesn’t describe changing note types of existing notes. Will that ever happen? I have some basic cards I’d like to make clozes.
I’ve changed the post title to reflect this, thank you.
At the moment, I don’t believe we have plans to implement this, as this will cause conflicts with content found in user’s local versions of the note in certain instances.
In your case, you could delete the notes you want to switch to clozes, then add the new cloze note type and suggest them. But I know that wouldn’t be ideal and would cause scheduling loss
