My intervals are maxed out at 3 months - pls help fix

I am doing the dermki deck and my intervals are maxed out at 3 months. I have FSRS on and the max interval at 36500 for that deck already. What am I doing wrong?

Most likely this isn’t an AnkiHub or deck issue, but a deck options / FSRS configuration issue in Anki.

Here are the things to check:

  1. Deck options group

    • Make sure you’re editing the same options group the Dermki deck actually uses:
      • In Anki, right‑click the Dermki deck → Options….
      • Confirm that the “Maximum interval = 36500” you showed is on this exact options group.
  2. Per‑deck FSRS config

    • Go to Tools → FSRS Helper (or your FSRS add‑on’s config).
    • Ensure the Dermki deck isn’t using a separate FSRS config with its own Max Interval (e.g. 90 days / 3 months). That limit will override Anki’s normal “Maximum interval” setting.
  3. Old scheduler / custom scheduling

    • In Tools → Preferences → Scheduling, confirm you’re on the V3 scheduler and not using any other add‑on that modifies scheduling (load balancers, custom schedulers, etc.). These can sometimes clamp intervals.
    • In the deck options, under Advanced → Custom scheduling, make sure nothing is enabled there that sets its own maximum.
  4. Check on a different card

    • Open the Browse window → pick a Dermki review card → Cards → Forget (or “Reschedule”) so it behaves like a fresh card and preview it.
    • See if the suggested intervals are still capped at 3 months. If yes, it’s definitely a config/scheduler cap, not card history.

If you can, please post:

  • A screenshot of Deck Options → Reviews tab for Dermki, and
  • A screenshot of your FSRS configuration for that deck.

With those, we can pinpoint exactly where the 3‑month cap is coming from.

Thanks,

I can’t seem to find the tools > preferences button on anki app on macbook. But see the following screenshots:

On macOS the Preferences menu is a bit hidden:

  1. At the very top of your screen, click Anki → Preferences…

    • It’s not under Tools on Mac (that’s why you don’t see it).
    • In Preferences → Scheduling, make sure:
      • Anki scheduler is set to V3.
      • There’s no “legacy” or custom scheduler enabled.
  2. Your screenshots confirm:

    • You’re editing the correct options group (AnkiHub (used by 1 deck)).
    • FSRS is on and the FSRS Max Interval is 36500 days, which is fine.
  3. Next things to check:

    A. Card‑specific maximum interval (FSRS Helper)

    • In the FSRS tab of the deck options, click Optimize Current Preset or open the FSRS Helper window.
    • Make sure there isn’t a per‑card or per‑tag setting limiting intervals (e.g. “maximum lapses” or a 90‑day cap).

    B. Another add‑on capping intervals

    • Check Tools → Add‑ons… and see if you have any of these installed:
      • “Straight Reward”, “Load Balancer”, “Review Heatmap”, or anything that mentions interval, scheduling, or load balancing.
    • Temporarily disable any scheduling‑related add‑ons (select add‑on → Disable → Restart Anki) and see if intervals go beyond 3 months.
  4. Quick test to confirm where the cap comes from:

    • Pick a Dermki review card → Browse → right‑click the card → Forget.
    • Study it again and press Good/Easy.
    • If you still see “Max 3 months” even after disabling other scheduler add‑ons and confirming V3, then it’s almost certainly an FSRS config issue.

If you can, please also share:

  • A screenshot of Preferences → Scheduling (from Anki → Preferences…)
  • A screenshot of your full FSRS tab for that options group (scroll to show everything)

With those two, we should be able to pinpoint exactly why you’re capped at 3 months.

Hello there!

When Hard, Good, and Easy all show the same interval, it means a maximum interval limit is capping them. The setting in your screenshot looks right, so the limit is probably coming from a different preset. Two things you can check:

  1. Subdeck presets. The Dermki deck has subdecks, and Anki uses the options preset of the subdeck a card is actually in, not the parent deck. Click the gear next to one of the Dermki subdecks, choose Options, and check which preset name is selected at the top. If it’s different from the one you edited, either switch the subdecks to that preset or set Maximum interval to 36500 in theirs too.

  2. Custom scheduling. In the same Advanced section, expand “Custom scheduling” and make sure the box is empty. Anything in there applies to all your decks and can override intervals.

After changing either, the new intervals should show up on the next card you review. Let me know if they’re still stuck at 3 months!
