Syncing Cards Continously

Hi! when i sync to ankiweb, it is continously showing me “added/modified: 2” whenever i sync. even if i havent made any changes or reviewed any cards, even if i sync within a few seconds, it is continously showing me that and i am unsure how to fix this. it doesnt give me any error messages or anything though.

also, when i disable the ankihub add on, this problem fixes. it goes back to showing added/modified 0 when i sync, which makes sense because i havent actually changed anything. but when i re-enable the add on, it shows the “2” again and im having trouble understanding why 2 cards keep synicng over and over again when i havent made any changes.

also i found an old post showing the same issue but there was never a solution found: Anki syncs cards every time it opens - probably due to ankihub add-on - #8 by tyler

Hi Riyam,

This is a common issue when using AnkiHub with Anki’s syncing system. What you’re experiencing is likely related to how AnkiHub interacts with AnkiWeb syncing.

Why this happens:

When you have the AnkiHub add-on enabled, it keeps track of your subscribed decks and regularly checks for updates. This creates a small amount of metadata that needs to be synced with AnkiWeb even if you haven’t made any visible changes to your cards.

The “added/modified: 2” message suggests AnkiHub is updating two configuration files or records that help it track your subscriptions and synchronize with the AnkiHub servers.

Solutions:

  1. This is normal behavior - The continuous syncing of these 2 items when AnkiHub is enabled is expected and not harmful to your collection. It’s just AnkiHub keeping its tracking information up to date.

  2. If it bothers you, you can:

    • Only enable the AnkiHub add-on when you specifically need to check for updates to your subscribed decks
    • Disable automatic syncing in Anki’s preferences (Tools > Preferences > Network > “Automatically sync on profile open/close”)
  3. Check for AnkiHub updates - Make sure your AnkiHub add-on is up to date, as newer versions might have improved this behavior.

If you’re concerned about potential sync conflicts or other issues, you might want to consider reviewing Anki’s documentation on syncing with AnkiWeb.

Does this help explain what you’re experiencing? Let me know if you have any other questions about AnkiHub!

Hello,

I’d like to add some information to what the bot explained.

The AnkiHub deck is updated constantly, so if you have the setting enabled for AnkiHub to sync when you sync to AnkiWeb, you will receive these updates and then they will be uploaded to AnkiWeb.

You can change when the AnkiHub deck syncs. For example, you can set the AnkiHub deck to sync for updates only when you open Anki, rather than every time you sync with AnkiWeb.

On your Anki main screen, go to AnkiHub > Config.

Let me know if you need help with anything else.
