Hi everyone,
I’ve using Anki with the default settings so far and now I want to switch to FSRS. I’ve been going through different recommendations and my head is kinda spinning now. I would really appreciate some guidance on the best settings to use. Since I’m still getting familiar with FSRS, a simple explanation would be really helpful!
Also, are there any additional settings I should adjust after enabling FSRS?
Could you please share your recommended settings for the following as well if they need to be changed?
Daily limits
(Re)learning steps
Graduating interval
Leech threshold
Display order settings
Burying
Maximum interval
Easy bonus
New interval
Currently I’m using AnkiHub default settings (Anking V12).
I’d love to hear what has worked best for you. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,
To switch to FSRS you can just turn it by toggling the FSRS button in deck settings. There’s not much else that needs to be done.
The very very short version is that FSRS is an improved algorithm compared to the older one (named SM-2). There are a million more details, but that’s the short and sweet.
The default settings other than that don’t need to be changed. FSRS functions independently from those other settings.
There is a new video coming out sometime soon, though the broad strokes haven’t changed much in a long while. The recommended default settings are still largely, or entirely, the same aside from FSRS now being recommended. This video has a longer explanation if it’s helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqRLqVRyIzc
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
Hello! I recently downloaded Anki and have turned on FSRS. I have both Ankihub + Butler addon. When it asked me if I wanted to use FSRS, I said yes. However, looking at the recommended settings that it downloaded for me (learning steps 15m 1d and relearning steps 15m 1d), I am wondering whether those are actually the intended recommended settings for FSRS because the notification comes up that 1d isn’t really recommended and it also differs from the settings Anking mentions in the Youtube video. Thanks!
Hello,
Learning steps are independent of FSRS, so you can more or less set them to whatever you would like for them to be. There aren’t any hard rules there.
Generally speaking, intervals longer than 1 day are not recommended for learning steps, but again that’s mostly a suggestion and not a hard-and-fast rule.
There will be a new video hopefully out soon, but for the moment these are still the typical recommended settings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqRLqVRyIzc
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
Thanks! So the “settings” that came with the AnkiHub and Butler addon may not actually be the most updated for FSRS? To confirm, if it differs with the Anking video, would you recommend referring to the video for now?
I haven’t used the Butler add-on so I’m not sure, tbh.
I would defer to the video posted, though if you have any specific questions I’m happy to answer.
