Unable to sync

I can’t sync decks with AnkiHub. I’m updated and I’ve tried on my laptop too and I can’t get it to work. All is says is ā€œAnkiHub sync cancelled.ā€

Thanks for the screenshots and details, that helps.

ā€œAnkiHub sync cancelledā€ usually means AnkiHub couldn’t finish the sync (often due to connection, login, or config issues), but Anki itself keeps running. Let’s go step by step:

1. Confirm you’re logged into AnkiHub in Anki

In Anki Desktop:

  1. Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config.
  2. At the top of the config, check:
    • ankihub_email
    • ankihub_api_key
  3. If they’re empty or look wrong:
    • Go to https://ankihub.net → Settings → AnkiHub Add-on.
    • Copy a new API key from there.
    • Paste your email and API key into the AnkiHub config.
  4. Close and restart Anki, then try AnkiHub → Sync again.

2. Make sure your deck is actually connected to AnkiHub

Still in Anki Desktop:

  1. Select the deck you’re trying to sync.
  2. Click AnkiHub → Deck Configuration.
  3. Check if you see the deck info with an AnkiHub deck ID.
    • If it says something like ā€œThis deck is not connected to AnkiHubā€, you’ll need to:
      • Either import the deck from AnkiHub again, or
      • Use AnkiHub → Connect Local Deck to AnkiHub Deck and select the right one.

If you’re not sure which deck is which, tell me the name of the AnkiHub deck you’re trying to use.

3. Check for error details in the console

Right after you see ā€œAnkiHub sync cancelledā€:

  1. Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → View Files.
  2. Open ankihub.log (if present) and see if there’s an obvious error message at the bottom.
  3. You can paste just the last 10–20 lines of that log here (remove anything that looks private like email if you want).

That will tell us if it’s:

  • a network issue,
  • an authentication issue (API key / email),
  • or something specific to that deck.

4. Check basic version requirements

From your screenshot it looks like you’re on a recent Anki, but please confirm:

  1. In Anki: Help → About → copy:
    • Anki version
    • Qt/PyQt version
  2. In Tools → Add-ons, confirm:
    • Only one AnkiHub add-on is installed and enabled.
    • If you have ā€œAnKing Overhaul (AnkiHub)ā€, that’s fine.

Post those version numbers here if the steps above don’t fix it.

If you can, please reply with:

  1. Whether your email + API key are set and freshly copied.
  2. Whether the deck shows as connected in ā€œAnkiHub → Deck Configurationā€.
  3. Your Anki version and AnkiHub add-on version (shown in the Add-ons list).
  4. The last lines of ankihub.log after a failed sync.

With that info we can narrow this down quickly.

I also just got the same error! With the red sync button!

Current thread regarding this on Anki forums: Sync error: error sending request for url () - #21 - Syncing & AnkiWeb - Anki Forums

Hello again

Just so I’m certain I’m on the same page, can you show me where you’re seeing this?

From the looks of it, the issue you’re experiencing seems like it’s an AnkiWeb error, rather than an AnkiHub error, and I just want to make sure I have the right idea

In the bottom left of the anki window when I attempt to sync (Despite syncing not working).

Can you share a screenshot, just so I can see what you’re seeing? There are some similar errors afoot and I’d like to make sure I know how best to be of help

Additionally, if you can double-check the version of Anki you’re using that would be helpful

If you can, within Anki go to your top menu bar. From there, click Anki - About Anki and check your version number.

Sorry to say I’m not sure, atm. It looks like Anki is currently having some server outages, and from the image you shared it appears you’re having a network connection issue (that is, by extension, preventing AnkiHub from being able to sync)

But the pop-up here is from Anki, rather than AnkiHub, so it looks like you’re not currently able to sync at all within Anki which is preventing you from being able to connect to AnkiHub’s servers

I’ll tag a developer on this, though my suspicion is that whatever is going on is likely related to Anki’s servers being down, which is unfortunately only an issue they can solve on their end I’m sorry to say

Hopefully whatever the outage is can be solved sooner rather than later, though I’ll have one of our devs take a look anyway just to confirm. :mending_heart:

Ty Brian, will update if this gets fixed.. hopefully by tomorrow
