What should be the settings of FSRS be for someone who has a comprehensive exam in 6 months?

I’m getting ready for Step 1 after a 7-year break from basic sciences, so I anticipate that my preparation will require at least 6 months (but not longer than 8-9 months). I plan to use FSRS for my Anki algorithm and prefer to keep the settings to a minimum, only making changes if absolutely necessary to suit my needs. Since I’m not an experienced Anki user, I’d really appreciate any guidance on which settings I should adjust. Thank you!

Hello,

The long and short of it is that there are no special settings for an exam horizon of 6 months. You turn on FSRS, select your desired retention, and that’s about it.

The recommendation is to optimize about once a month so it can learn from your review history, but there aren’t a lot of settings to adjust and, realistically, Anki doesn’t vary based on exam timing. Best practices are the same, regardless of most timelines.

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Wow!
Thank’s great! Thanks!
I’ll certainly do that. What about this warning showing up when I turn FSRS on?

It’s just telling you that learning steps of longer than 1d are not recommended. You seem to have learning steps that include 1 day, and 10 days.

1 day is somewhat optional. I would for sure recommend not using a learning step of 10 days.

IIRC the ‘standard’ is ‘10m 1h’, or thereabouts. But, learning steps are largely personal preference so you can adjust them as you see fit to a large degree (just, again, that steps longer than 1 day are not recommended with FSRS).

If you have any other questions, please feel free. Happy to help.
