Thanks for your question about the protect fields feature in AnkiHub! Let me clarify how this works:

First Question: Selective Protection

Yes, you’re correct! If you’ve edited 10 cards out of 100 and then use the protect fields feature, only those 10 specific cards that you’ve marked for protection will be protected. The other 90 cards will continue to receive updates when you sync with AnkiHub.

Second Question: What Happens to Protected Fields

When you protect a field on a card, AnkiHub will not overwrite any information you’ve added to that field. Your edits are preserved exactly as you made them. New updates from AnkiHub will not affect or modify your protected content in any way - your information stays intact.

How to Protect Fields

There are two main ways to protect fields:

  1. For individual cards:

    • Right-click on the card you want to protect
    • Select “AnkiHub: Protect Fields”
    • Choose which specific field you want to protect
  2. For all cards in a deck (to protect the same field across all cards):

    • Go to the deck’s page on the AnkiHub website
    • Click the 3 dots in the top right corner
    • Select “Manage protected data”
    • Check the fields you want to protect (a tick means it will be protected)

You can also protect multiple cards at once by highlighting all the cards you want to protect and following the same steps as for individual cards.
