🔐 Protecting Fields and Tags

What is “Protecting” A Field?

Protecting a field allows you to add anything you want to a field without it being overwritten by AnkiHub

Protecting Fields with Special Tags

You can protect fields of individual notes using special tags. For example:

  • AnkiHub_Protect::Front protects the Front field of the note that has this tag. (Use underscore if there are spaces in the field name).
  • AnkiHub_Protect::All protects all fields of the note. These tags are only used in the add-on, not on the Website. These are case-sensitive.
  1. Find the card you want to protect and right click on it
  2. Select “AnkiHub: Protect Fields”

  1. Select the field you want to protect for that card only

After this, no changes will occur to that protect field for that card specifically. You can repeat this for any cards you wish to protect. To protect multiple cards at once, just highlight all the cards you wish to protect and repeat the steps above

Protecting Fields on the AnkiHub Website

If you want to protect a specific field on every card, you will have to do this on the AnkiHub website

  1. Go to the main page of the deck you want to protect
  2. On the top right, click the 3 dots
  3. Click on manage protected data

  1. Select the fields you want to protect (a tick means it will be protected)

Protecting Tags

If you want to suggest to a deck on AnkiHub but have personal tags that you have added to some cards. You will need to protect the tags in order for them not to show up in suggestions.

You can do this the same way as protecting fields on the AnkiHub website, follow the previous steps outlined above, but add the tags in the box below
