Hi Gadelrab!
When you add custom cloze deletions to AnKing Step 1/2 deck cards, they’re getting deleted during AnkiHub sync because the main “Text” field (where cloze deletions live) isn’t automatically protected.
Why This Happens
When AnkiHub syncs, it updates cards with the “official” version from the deck maintainers. By default, your custom cloze deletions in the Text field are overwritten during this process.
Solution: Protect Your Edits
There are two main ways to preserve your custom cloze deletions:
Option 1: Protect individual cards with custom clozes
- Find the card you modified
- Right-click on it
- Select “AnkiHub: Protect Fields”
- Choose the “Text” field (where cloze deletions are stored)
This will prevent AnkiHub from overwriting your custom clozes on that specific card during syncs.
Option 2: Use personal fields for your notes
The AnKing Step deck has several protected fields by default, including:
- Lecture Notes
- Missed Questions
- Additional Resources
You could add your custom notes and information in these fields instead of modifying the original cloze deletions.
For more detailed instructions, you can check out the tutorial on managing protected fields on the AnkiHub community site.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
