After updating my Anki, my fonts are different

For example, this is how cards look and how I am used to them looking

Now, some cards, when revealed, look like this

You can see the difference in size, font, and spacing. Keep in mind, all I did was update Anki to its newest version. Can someone help me please?

This usually happens because the Anki update changed how the card templates / styling (CSS) are interpreted, or reset some display settings. A few quick things to check:

1. Check the note type’s styling (CSS)

1. Open the deck in Anki.
2. Click Cards….
3. At the top right, click the Styling tab.
4. Compare the CSS for:
   • font-family
   • font-size
   • line-height / margin

If some cards still look “normal” and others don’t, they may be using different note types or different card templates that have slightly different CSS.

If you’re using an AnkiHub shared deck (e.g. AnKing Overhaul):

• Make sure the note type you’re using is the official one from AnkiHub (you can see the note type name at the top of the Cards… window).
• If you suspect the CSS changed, please share:
  • The note type name of the card that looks correct vs the one that looks wrong.
  • A screenshot of the Styling tab for both.

2. Check Anki’s display settings

Go to Tools → Preferences → Reviewing and confirm:

• Use Anki’s default font is set the way you want.
• If you changed the “Zoom” level recently, that can also change the apparent spacing/size.

3. Confirm whether the difference is per‑card or per‑deck

• Do all cards in the deck look “off,” or only some?
• If only some, are they:
  • From a different deck?
  • From a different note type (e.g. Cloze vs Basic, or an older version of the AnKing note type)?

This will tell us whether it’s a template/CSS issue or a global Anki setting.

2. The note type name of a “normal” card vs a “different” card.
3. A copy or screenshot of the Styling section from Cards… for one problematic card.

To be honest, I’m not quite sure. I have also updated Anki, though I don’t seem to be experiencing this issue (and, as yet, we haven’t heard any reports from other users about anything similar)

But, let’s see if we can’t take a look. A couple of things:

• Can you pull up the edit screen for both of these cards, click on the Text field, then command+shift+x? This should reveal the HTML code there, and would look something like this:

From there, can you go to your top toolbar: Tools - Add-ons, and share a screenshot of what your add-ons look like?

It does appear that you have quite a few add-ons present. The first thing I would try is disabling then and restarting Anki to see if one of them is conflicting with your note styling

Just to make sure I can see what you’re seeing, can you share a screenshot of the card after having disabled all add-ons and restarting Anki?

I’m genuinely not sure, tbh. I don’t see anything in the HTML code that you shared to indicate that having updated Anki should have caused much, and I’ve yet to hear from anyone else with the same issue (and can’t seem to recreate it on my end)

About the only other thing I can think of is to try resetting your note types. With the Anking Custom Note Types add-on enabled, you can go to your top menu bar; AnKing - AnKing Note Types

From there, select each of these tabs and click ‘reset’ at the bottom of each. Then, restart Anki and see if it makes a difference

I can’t promise much there, as it’s just a hunch. But, outside of that I don’t have a lot to go on otherwise, I’m sorry to say

I assume you can see this in a Basic template? I’ve seen a few reports of changes in font rendering since 25.09 but there’s no known fix yet.

Just wanted to add that my font has changed the same way as yours since I updated anki last night.
