Anki is incredibly slow after 3/24 Ankihub update

When I opened up Anki today, it asked me if I wanted to get the 3/24 update of Ankihub and I said yes but installing that, closing the app, opening the app, and syncing has been taking way too long ever since. I can go through reviews just fine but it’s just the data-related stuff that seems to be taking like 5-10 minutes each.

Hello,

Please try starting Anki in safe mode, it will temporarily disable all add-ons. To do this, open Anki while holding down the Shift key.

Tell me if this slowness goes away when all add-ons are disabled

Hello, I have tried that at your advice. It opens/loads, syncs, and closes instantly as expected

Out of curiosity, I tried restarting my computer and opening in safe mode again. It opened after several seconds, but with this error: https://snipboard.io/Vp6x1t.jpg

It’s still fast in safe mode.

Can you please go to Help > About Anki and send us a screenshot of your Anki version?

Also, could you please upload your logs? Here’s how:

  1. In the Anki app, navigate to the menu: AnkiHub > Help > Upload Logs.
  2. A filename will be shown in a confirmation pop-up. Please copy and paste that filename here for us.

I am also having a very similar issue (I think the same as described, but not 100% certain)!

My slowness 100% disappears when I open in safe mode.

Hello,

We were experiencing some server issues, but they should now be resolved. Please let us know if you continue to encounter any problems.

Hi Marcos, I’m not sure it’s resolved for me. I’ve tried opening the Anki app without safe mode. It’s been 7 minutes now and I’m still waiting for it to open.

Once it does open, I’ll see if I can upload logs.

It has been over 16 minutes since I tried to open Anki. It has not yet opened. This is what my task manager looks like. I’m afraid that I might not be able to upload logs if it continues taking this long, as I really do need to keep using Anki so I will be using it in safe mode.

What features would I be missing out on if I continue to just open in safe mode without the ankihub add-on?

A startup delay in the Anki app is usually not related to the AnkiHub add-on. You may have just run into an Anki bug. Please end these two processes (python and anki) and then try to open Anki normally.

I’m sorry but clearly it has to do with AnkiHub if AnkiHub is the only add-on that I have, and disabling add-ons upon startup allows me to use Anki normally.

If you force end these two processes in the Task Manager and then try to open Anki again, what happens?

It’s finally working again!!! Sync, open, and close all working as normal again. Thank you!

@MarcosZan It seems to be a lot better (so far)! I will let you know if that changes – thank you!
