I recently updated ANKI to the most updated version, and now when I am going through decks, there is an occasional lag in either showing the answer or moving on to the next card. I have not noticed a difference between new cards and review cards, it happens in both. I would say it happens at least 20 times a day. The only way I have figured out how to get past it is to press the spacebar to go to the next card and then I have to hit undo and redo the previous card to see the answer.

When this happens, can you send us the note ID of the cards its happening for? This way we can narrow down what the issue is
I have also noticed that it does not happen when I do anki on my iOS app on my phone. 16413 is one I just came across, but it doesnt always seem to happen with the same cards everytime

Can you go to activity monitor on your Mac and go to memory, can you see what color this is or how much memory is used?
Those images should not be causing issues but let me know some more cards that are causing lag and I can resize them or reduce their resolution but I can’t fully rule in that the images are the cause so far
I do not believe its certain cards, it seems more like something with the way the program is running
I used to have this issue extremely bad with the M1 MacBook air. I noticed this happened only when I downloaded the silicon version of Anki. I tried using the Intel version and this completely fixed the lag (night and day difference, on the silicon version even scrolling in the browser section or scrolling in Anki it self was laggy, but using Intel made it super smooth)
Other things could be the usual such as exiting as many apps that you do not need to free up more space (but it looks like you have sufficient ram so far)
We did have an issue with certain images which were super high in resolution that was causing lag and it is only on certain cards. But if you mention that its not happening on certain cards then it could just be with Anki itself
I have a new MacBook Air, my friend also just got the same computer. she said shes having the same issue.
I will try to download intel and see if that fixes it
Also try providing more examples of cards that the lag occurs in so we can fully rule out images causing this.
Also you mentioned you just updated Anki and this started, can you try also downgrading to a older version of Anki and see if that might fix it?
Also the version of Qt6 vs Qt5 might also play a role so you can try these two versions and see if that causes any difference

This link has all the older versions, its the same process, you download the version then click on it and ask it to either replace your Anki or keep both. Then when you search you will see “Anki 2” or “Anki 3” if you keep each version
Changing the video driver from the preferences might help.
