Lag when flipping cards with AnKing photos

I am having some lag everytime when flipping to the back of a card that contains AnKind media in the extras field. This does not occur if there is no media on the card. Cards with media in other fields does not cause this.

Is there any way I can fix this ? Thank you.

Hello,

First, can you share screencap/s of a note, or notes, where this occurs? Just so we can pin down the culprits?

From there, the first stuff we’ll look at:

This issue falls into kind of a weird area, where the cause is typically not with Ankihub itself but rather most commonly your local machine and/or Anki version.

The typical recommendations are as follows:

  • Make sure that the device you’re using has sufficient storage capacity.
  • Make sure all of your add-ons are up to date.
  • Make sure you’re on the most recent version of Anki (24.11).
  • In order to eliminate an add-on as a potential source of this issue, you might turn off all add-ons and restart Anki to see if the issue persists. Obviously, if it goes away then the issue is potentially with an add-on.
  • Lastly, if you’ve tried all of the above and the issue has not resolved the next likeliest culprit is your local machine and/or video drivers, and the recommendation is to try changing your video driver to see if this alleviates the issue.

If you’re like me, fiddling with video drivers does not sound comforting but it’s actually quite straightforward:

Within Anki, head to preferences:

In the resulting window you should have a little option that says ‘Video driver’:

Typically there are only 2-3 options there. You might try switching your video driver (and restarting Anki) and see if that cures the issue. In most cases by the time you’ve gotten here the issue will be resolved.

If that’s not the case, that’s typically the point at which I might recommend that you reach out on the official Anki forums where there is more expert technical help related to Anki itself.

Let me know which, if any, of these steps helps you out and how you fare.

Updated my add ons and played around with the driver settings. I think it is better now, thank you so much .

Which video driver did you end up settling with?

I updated my add-on settings and tried out all the other available video driver options. but am still getting the lag when opening cards that have the updated images on them.

For clarity, I am using Anki version 24.11, and have the most updated version of AnkiHub installed.

Here’s an example card that is still causing me issues:

Card ID: 1705370826972
Note ID: 1497378287715

Here’s another card I’m having issue with:

Card ID: 1705370806674
Note ID: 1471899439284

Appreciate any help with this!

Just as a small hunch, can you try resizing the images? It is known that, on some machines, particularly either older machines or those with limited resources, larger image sizes can cause a little delay in rendering.

Not 100% that will solve the problem, but it’s easy enough that it feels worth trying. I would try either resizing the image and/or taking a screencap and replacing the image with your screencap (which will likely be a smaller file size and thus less resource intensive).

Not positive on either of these, but if you can give them a shot and if nothing else it’ll give us a better idea of what we’re looking at and dealing with.

If you do this, make sure to protect that field so the changes do not get overwritten!
