I’ve been running into a frustrating issue. Whenever I answer a card in Anki, there’s a delay of about 0.5 to 5 seconds before the next card shows up.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
Disabled all add-ons and tested
Synced and checked media
Ran Check Database
Resized window
Reinstalled Anki completely
I’m currently on Windows ARM (so running the x64 build under emulation).
Has anyone else run into this kind of lag, and if so, what helped you solve it? Any other tips would be much appreciated.
I’ll help you troubleshoot this lag issue when answering cards in Anki. Let me search for some relevant information first.

Hi Markowski,
The lag you’re experiencing between cards is certainly frustrating! While I couldn’t find any forum posts specifically addressing this exact issue, I can offer some troubleshooting suggestions:
Things to try:
Check your timer settings
Go to your deck options
Under the Timer section, check if “Show answer timer” and “Stop timer on answer” settings might be affecting performance
Adjust maximum interval settings
Sometimes large maximum intervals (default is 100 years) can cause performance issues
Try temporarily reducing this in deck options under Advanced settings
Video driver issues
Since you’re running Windows ARM with x64 emulation, this could be causing performance issues
Try changing your video driver in Anki preferences (or via the gldriver file)
Test all three driver options to see if any improve performance
Learn ahead limit
Adjusting the learn ahead limit in preferences might help
This controls how far ahead Anki looks for cards
Simplify your cards
If your cards contain complex media or JavaScript, this could be slowing things down
Try testing with a simple text-only deck to see if the issue persists
Since you’re running Anki under emulation on Windows ARM, the performance issues might be related to this specific setup. The x64 emulation layer could be introducing additional overhead.
Have you noticed if the lag is worse with certain types of cards (those with images/media vs. plain text)?
If none of these suggestions help, you might want to try posting on the Anki forums as well, since this seems to be more of an Anki core performance issue rather than an AnkiHub-specific problem.
That’s odd. This is a very annoying bug, and changing the video driver almost always fixes the issue. Unfortunately, as this is a core Anki problem that can be quite technical, it’s outside the scope of what I can help with.
Please try posting about this on the Anki forums, where you might get more help: https://forums.ankiweb.net/
