Hello new to Anki and Anking.
I have been using Kaplan milestone deck to study. I liked this deck as it was divided into each chapter based on Kaplan textbooks. I discovered Anking and i love the deck as it provides better imagine and has more cards. When I paid subscription and download the plug in, i noticed it was not divided into Kaplan chapters. Is there way to divide them into chapters and plug them into my current Kaplan deck?
I read some post saying to suspend and creating a subdeck. As I am new to anki is it possible to show step by step how to transfer the deck to Kaplan chapters?
Or is there any way to show just the chapters I am studying using the Kaplan books? For example if I studied bio chapter3, and I want to see the cards just for chapter 3, do I suspend all the cards and unsuspend the chapter 3 bio section? Will that only show the questions that is only based on the chapter 3 bio in the “biology” section since Anking does not sub sub divided each subject into chapters.
Thank you

Hi Rlawndus93,
Welcome to Anki and the AnKing community! I understand you’re looking to organize the AnKing MCAT deck to match your Kaplan chapter structure. Here’s how you can achieve this:
Understanding the AnKing MCAT Deck Organization
The AnKing MCAT deck already has Kaplan chapter tags, but they’re organized as tags rather than subdecks. This means you can filter by chapters, but they don’t appear as separate decks by default.
Step-by-Step Guide to Organizing by Kaplan Chapters:
-
Access the Tags:
- Open Anki
- Click on Browse at the top of the main screen
- On the left sidebar, expand Tags
- Look for
#AK_MCAT_v2 and expand it
- Under this, find and expand the
#Kaplan tag to see all chapters
-
Create a Subdeck for a Specific Chapter:
- In the deck browser, right-click on the AnKing MCAT deck
- Select Add → Subdeck
- Name it according to your chapter (e.g., “Bio Chapter 3”)
-
Move Cards to Your New Subdeck:
- In the browser, click on the specific Kaplan chapter tag you want (e.g., the tag for Bio Chapter 3)
- All cards with that tag will be displayed
- Select all cards (Ctrl+A or Command+A on Mac)
- Right-click and select Change Deck
- Choose your newly created subdeck
-
Repeat for Each Chapter you’re studying
Alternative Method (Filtered Decks):
If you prefer not to create multiple subdecks, you can use filtered decks:
- From the main Anki screen, click Create Filtered Deck
- In the search field enter:
tag:#Kaplan::"Chapter X Biology" (replace X with your chapter number)
- Set your study options and click Build
This will create a temporary deck with only the cards from that specific chapter.
Studying Specific Chapters Without Creating Subdecks:
Yes, you can also keep everything in the original deck structure and just control which cards appear:
- In the browser, find all cards except the chapter you want to study
- Select them all and click Suspend (or press the shortcut key, which is usually ‘S’)
- Only unsuspend the specific chapter you want to study
- Now when you study the “Biology” section, only your unsuspended Chapter 3 cards will appear

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any clarification on these steps.
Hello,
I would be happy to help.
The deck is divided by Kaplan chapters, though the deck is organized by tag rather than by subdeck (for a few reasons):
Many large decks are organized by tags, rather than subjects, for a few reasons in part because not everyone uses Kaplan and so organizing the subdecks via chapters would be pretty unhelpful for many folks, though you can organize your local collection by subdeck if you prefer to do it that way
This tutorial can walk you through how to create subdecks: How to Create Subdecks
Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.
