Separating sections into sub-decks

I uploaded all of the MCAT decks into Anki and they are separated by subject, but is there a way to separate them into sub-decks by chapter? As in Kaplan book chapters

Hello,

You have a couple of options:

First, the deck is already tagged by Kaplan chapters which you can use to guide your studying:

Or, second, if you want to specifically organize your subdecks via Kaplan chapter, you can do so. You’d want to create whichever decks you want and move the cards around however you prefer. If that’s what you’d like to do I can help walk you through the process.

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Hi!
Thank you for the reply.
This is what my Anki Home Screen currently looks like. Where can I go to filter through the tags like in the screenshot you provided? Also I would like the walkthrough of how to organize my sundecks by Kaplan chapters, please.

Thank you!

A few things:

First, most folks typically start with the deck such that all cards are suspended, and then they unsuspend as they go. This can make life easier such that you don’t have 5,000 new cards ready right away (as appears to be the case from the image you shared).

So, I would recommend first suspending all cards, and then unsuspending based on tags, or topics, as you want to encounter them. Happy to help with this if you’d like.

Second, to access your tags you can click on ‘Browse’ from the top of your main Anki screen and then your tag collection should be listed on the left-hand side:

Within this hierarchical tree will be nested all of the tags related to the MCAT, by topic, resource, chapter, etc., etc.

Last, you can re-order your subdecks into any format or arrangement that you like. From your main Anki screen there is a button at the bottom that says ‘Create Deck’:

In this way, you can create decks based on subject, chapter, resource, whatever you like.

Then, you’ll want to move cards into those decks. This can be accomplished by selecting whichever cards you want, say by choosing a particular tag, then command+A to select all of those cards, right-click, and select ‘change deck’:

In this way you can move your cards around however you would like.

You can, essentially, organize your local collection based on whatever preference you might have. I didn’t personally organize the subdecks by Kaplan chapter (as the tags functionally already do this), and you don’t necessarily need to do so, but you can do it if that’s what you’d prefer.

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Okay this makes so much more sense, thank you so much!
