Hi everyone, needing some help here!
My Anki is showing the back card in the front, this way I get to see the answers along with the questions (front card). It started to happen in the middle of my study, and is happening to all cards, including the ones I’ve already done and know that were normal in my previous studies.
What can I do? I appreciate any support

Back Card Showing on Front - How to Fix
Hi there! Based on the screenshot you shared, it looks like you’re experiencing an issue where your Anki cards are showing both the question and answer on the front side. This can be frustrating when trying to study effectively.
Possible Causes and Solutions
This issue might be happening for a few different reasons:
-
Auto-play audio setting: Sometimes Anki’s audio settings can cause content from the back of the card to appear on the front.
-
Card template issue: There might be an issue with the card template itself where content from the back field is accidentally included in the front template.
Here’s what you can try:
Check Audio Settings
- Go to the deck options (click on the gear icon next to your deck)
- Look for the “Audio” section
- Check if “Don’t play audio automatically” is enabled
- Try toggling this setting to see if it helps
Check Card Templates
- Find a problematic card in your deck
- Click “Browse” in the main Anki window
- Find the card and select it
- Click “Cards…” button to view the templates
- Check the front template to make sure it’s not accidentally including back content
- Make sure there are no mistakes in the template code that might be showing the answer
Restart Anki
Sometimes simply restarting the application can resolve display issues.
If these steps don’t solve your problem, please provide more information about:
- What version of Anki you’re using
- When exactly this issue started happening
- If you made any changes to your card templates recently
The Anki community is here to help you get your cards displaying correctly again!
Hello,
Please follow the steps below to try to resolve the issue:
- Download the AnKing Note Types add-on and update your note type:
AnKing Note Types Add-on
- Update Anki to the latest version:
https://apps.ankiweb.net/
Just run the downloaded file — it will update your current Anki installation automatically.
- Update your add-on:
Open Anki and go to:
Tools > Add-ons > Check for Updates
- Restart Anki.
Let me know if this solves the issue or if you need any further help!

Hi Marcos, thanks for the reply!
I’ve tried the steps you sent, but it didn’t work. The back is still with the front…
Hello,
Could you please let me know the name of the note type of the cards you’re experiencing issues with?
Also, if you have other cards using a different note type (not the AnKing note type), please let me know if the issue occurs with those as well. As a test, try creating a card using the default Cloze note type in Anki and see if the same problem occurs.
If none of this helps, try opening Anki while holding down the Shift key — this disables all add-ons. This can help us determine whether the issue is being caused by one of them.
Let me know how it goes so we can continue troubleshooting if needed!
I’m not sure if I got what you need, but my problem is with all the cards from Anking Step Deck. For example, one of them is Anki id: 1473733024243
Another is |Card ID|1742943000156|
|Note ID|1482022047168|.
At the moment I’m only using this deck, so it’s only the Anking type, I guess. But I’ll try to create a card
Sorry, I should’ve explained it better!
When you open the Card Info, you can see the note type listed there:
Please check if the name of your note type is exactly the same as mine.
Also, if possible, try creating a test card using the default Anki “Cloze” note type. This will really help us figure out what might be going on!
Also try resetting the note type and see if that fixes it

Hello, is the same!
The only difference from yours is the preset
I’ve created the cloze card you said, it’s working just fine on the preview, but all the others are showing the same issue (on the preview).
This is a card that isn’t even opening at the deck
Hello!
Just tried, it’s still the same
Hey!
Is there anything else to try?
Hello, sorry for the late reply.
Could you please make sure that:
- Your Anki is up to date
- Your add-ons are up to date
- You’ve tried resetting the note type and also updating it
I know it sounds odd, but repeating the steps above might help.
Also, please check the following:
- You’ve tried opening Anki while holding down the Shift key
- Other note types are working fine — the only one with this issue is the AnKing note type
Next, try checking that the Text and Extra fields are not protected on AnkiHub:
How to manage protected fields
Then:
This should help resolve the “No cloze 1 found…” bug as well.
Finally, if nothing works, try disabling all add-ons except for AnkiHub and the AnKing note types, then repeat the process of resetting and updating the note type.
Don’t worry — we’ll figure this out!
Let me know how it goes or if you need help with any of the steps.

The only thing missing to try is resetting local changes because my options go like this:
It’s different from the tutorial
All the others I’ve tried and it still not back to normal.
It looks like it should be the same as the tutorial.
This option menu is from the main Anki screen:
This option menu is from the Browse screen:
The first step of the tutorial guides you in clicking ‘Browse’ from the top of your main Anki screen, which I believe may be the missing step here:
Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.
Sorry, my bad
But anyway, nothing changed
Could you go to Browse, select one of the cards that has the problem, then right-click and choose Export Note?
(If the option doesn’t appear, make sure to switch the browser view from “Cards” to “Notes.”)
→
Then, if you could send the file, we’ll take a look at what’s going on.
Good news — I found the issue!
For some unknown reason, there was a line at the end of the note template code that caused the Extra field to appear on the Front. It was located in a section that AnkiHub can’t access, which is why nothing else worked.
To fix it, follow the steps in this video:
