Cannot install the AnkiHib add on

Hello, I just subscribed to AnkiHub for the MCAT deck. I installed the most recent version of anki (several times today) and still cannot add the AnkiHub add-on. Here are the issues I am having.

  1. I do not have the “Third-party services” tab in my Anki preferences menu.

  1. When I try to add the AnkHub add on via tools>add ons> get add ons> enter code “1322529746” I get an error message.

Extra info:

  • I am running MacOs Sonoma 14.1 (23B74)

  • When I click on Anki to see what version I’m running, I get this screen. I downloaded an update today from the Anki homepage, as Anki prompted me to. I am unsure if I am running the most recent macOS version of anki even though I literally downloaded it today.

Thanks for all the details and screenshots—that helps a lot.

You’re on Anki 2.1.54, which is too old for the current AnkiHub add-on. That’s why:

  • The “Third‑party services” tab is missing, and
  • You get the error Invalid code, or add-on not available for your version of Anki when using code 1322529746.

The current AnkiHub add-on requires a much newer Anki version (Qt6 build).

Step 1 – Uninstall your current Anki

  1. Quit Anki completely.
  2. Drag the Anki app from Applications → Trash (this does not delete your collection; it’s stored separately).

Step 2 – Install a supported Anki version for macOS Sonoma

  1. Go to the official Anki download page:
    https://apps.ankiweb.net/
  2. Under macOS, download the latest Qt6 build (it will mention macOS 10.15+ / 11+).
  3. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Anki into Applications.
  4. Launch Anki from Applications (not from an old shortcut).

Check your version from Anki → About Anki. It should show a 2.1.6x+ Qt6 version (e.g. 2.1.70+).

Step 3 – Install the AnkiHub add-on

  1. In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons.
  2. Enter the code: 1322529746 and click OK.
  3. Restart Anki when prompted.
  4. Then go to Anki → Preferences and you should now see the “Third‑party services” tab to sign in with AnkiHub.

If it still doesn’t work

If you still get an error after installing the latest Qt6 version:

  • Please post a fresh screenshot of Anki → About Anki and the exact error message.
  • Also confirm that you downloaded Anki from apps.ankiweb.net, not from any other site or package manager.

Once Anki+AnkiHub are installed, we can walk you through connecting to the AnkiHub MCAT deck.

I deleted my current Anki application and downloaded the new one from the link provided ( i have done this several times over today). I downloaded the file “anki-launcher-25.09-mac.dmg” moved anki to my applications folder. I then opened the anki app and got this.

That launcher window explains everything – you didn’t install Anki itself, you installed the new “Anki Launcher” experiment, which currently doesn’t support add‑ons like AnkiHub. That’s why you still can’t see the Third‑party services tab or install code 1322529746.

You’ll need to uninstall the launcher and install the regular Anki app (Qt6) instead.

1. Remove the Anki Launcher

  1. Quit the launcher/terminal window.
  2. In Applications, look for anything named “Anki Launcher” and move it to Trash.
  3. Also trash any Anki app you currently have there, so we can start clean.

This will not delete your cards; your collection is stored separately.

2. Download the normal Anki for macOS

  1. Go to: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

  2. Under macOS, ignore anything called launcher.

  3. Download the file that looks like:

    • anki-2.1.xx-mac-qt6.dmg (the exact numbers may differ, but it should start with anki-2.1 and not say “launcher”).
  4. Open the .dmg, then drag the blue Anki icon into Applications.

  5. Open Anki from Applications (you should now see the normal Anki GUI, not a terminal window).

  6. Check Anki → About Anki and confirm it shows a recent 2.1.6x+ Qt6 version.

3. Install the AnkiHub add-on

  1. In Anki: Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons.
  2. Enter: 1322529746.
  3. Restart Anki.
  4. Open Anki → Preferences → Third‑party services and sign in with your AnkiHub account.

If you’d like, post a screenshot of About Anki after step 2, and I’ll double‑check that you’re on a version compatible with AnkiHub before you proceed.

I am downloading the file on the anki homepage for Mac. Each time I click that I get an anki-launcher file.

You’re right – at the moment the main macOS download is the launcher, so you’re not doing anything wrong. The problem is that the launcher is still experimental and doesn’t support add‑ons like AnkiHub yet, so we need to grab a direct “classic” Anki build instead.

Here’s how:

1. Download a direct Anki build (not the launcher)

  1. Go to the Anki download page:
    https://apps.ankiweb.net/

  2. Under the Desktop section, click the small link that says:

    “Download a specific version”

(it’s right under the “Windows / macOS Qt6 / Source” row).

  3. On the “specific versions” page, scroll to the macOS section and download a file named similar to:

    • anki-2.1.xx-mac-qt6.dmg

    Make sure:

    • The filename starts with anki-2.1,
    • Does not contain the word launcher.
  4. Open that .dmg and drag the Anki app into Applications.

2. Open Anki and verify the version

  1. Launch Anki from Applications.
  2. In the menu bar, go to Anki → About Anki.
  3. Confirm it shows something like 2.1.6x+ (Qt6) (and no mention of “Launcher”).

If that looks good, you’re on a version that supports add‑ons.

3. Install the AnkiHub add‑on

  1. In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons.
  2. Enter code: 1322529746.
  3. Click OK, then restart Anki.
  4. Go to Anki → Preferences → Third‑party services and sign in with your AnkiHub account.

If you’d like, post a screenshot of About Anki after step 2, and I’ll confirm you’re on a fully compatible version before you proceed with the MCAT deck setup.

There are no files that do not contain a launcher

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

Per the on-screen directions, from this screen if you would like the latest Anki you can press Enter

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

Hi Brian, thank you! That resolved the issue. I appreciate your help!
