Cannot move past a new card without hitting "good"

Hello,

I am having trouble with Anki. I having been using the anking deck for ~10 months now with no troubles. I went home for Christmas break with no issues and kept up with my reviews with no issues.

However, I am now starting back school this spring and went to study some New cards. For some reason, when seeing a New Card, I am not able to move past it. The ONLY way to move past it is by hitting “Good” until I get the card to go “1 day” to tomorrow. Hitting “Again” or “Hard” only causes the card to reappear immediately.

I dont understand what is going on as I have not changed anything from when I used Anki before break. If anyone has idea idea how to fix this please help!

Thanks so so much (here are pictures of my settings and add-ons)

Hello,

This might be due to the learn ahead feature.

Can you go Anki at the top left → preferences → review → check what your learning ahead limit is

If it is something like 20, then that is the reason why it keeps showing up. I have mine set to 0

That fixed it! Thank you so much Ahmed. You are a life saver!!!

Hey, sorry to be asking more questions but I have another issue.

After turning the “learn ahead” limit to 0, I now have a problem when I finish all the new cards in a deck. For example, if I am working on 10 New cards and I hit “Good 10 Minutes” on all of them, I have to wait 10 minutes before Anki will show them to me again. This was not an issue before. I would prefer than even if the card is supposed to not be shown to me in 10 minutes, if I only have a few left that Anki goes ahead and shows me to card so I can answer it. Wondering if you have any guidance. Thanks!

The cards are probably appearing again immediately after rating them because the only way to make a card leave the learning stage is to hit Good (to advance the card to the next learning step) or Easy (to immediately move the card to the review stage).

Yes I thought so too but hitting “Hard” or “Good” still causes the card to reappear immediately, even when there are other “newer” cards. The only way to get it to disappear is to hit “Good” enough times so that it goes to 1 day

Screen Recording Anking.mov.zip (3.8 MB)

Are the cards perhaps overdue? That explains why Anki might think they should keep showing up before other cards. You can try changing the " Review sort order" option to “Random” but note this will affect review cards too.

No, unfortunately they are not. the cards that were in that screen recording were brand new cards that I had ensured were “forgotten” before I started to use them as an example.

You can try experimenting with slightly longer learning intervals (so maybe 25m 50m) or a shorter learn ahead limit.

Unfortunately, setting a again thats 1 minute but a learn ahead of 5 minutes will always cause the again to show the card right away

Thank yall for trying to help with this. I really appreciate it. Will get to the bottom of it eventually but seems to be a problem that is unique to me unfortunately.
