It sounds like Anki itself is crashing on Windows 11 whenever you try to use Browse or sync media after adding the AnKing deck, rather than just an AnkiHub issue. Let’s narrow it down and get you a working setup.
1. Basic checks
Please confirm:
-
Anki version
- Open Anki → Help → About and tell us the exact version (e.g. 24.06, 2.1.65, etc.).
- If you’re not on the latest stable from apps.ankiweb.net, update first, then test again.
-
AnkiHub add-on version
- Tools → Add-ons → select AnkiHub → click View Files → copy the version from the
manifest.jsonor the add-ons list if shown. - If it’s outdated, please update via AnkiWeb or reinstall.
- Tools → Add-ons → select AnkiHub → click View Files → copy the version from the

GPU / display issues
On some Windows 11 + Intel iGPU systems, Anki’s interface can crash when opening heavy views like Browse.Try:
- Tools → Add-ons → disable everything except AnkiHub → restart Anki → try opening Browse.
- If it still crashes:
Tools → Preferences → General tab:- Turn off or on “Use advanced (OpenGL) graphics acceleration” (whichever it isn’t now), restart Anki, then test Browse again.
- Also try running Anki with the
--no-hw-accelflag (if you’re comfortable) or temporarily disabling any screen-recording/overlay software.
2. Check if the problem is deck-size related
The AnKing deck is large and can stress weaker configurations, but with 32 GB RAM & i9, your machine is powerful enough. However, corrupted media or database issues can still cause crashes.
Please try:
-
Open Anki without the collection auto-loading
- Hold Shift while starting Anki → choose “Open without add-ons” when prompted.
- If you can get in:
- Tools → Check Database
- Then try opening Browse (still without add-ons).
-
If Browse works without add-ons
- Close Anki → start normally.
- Enable only AnkiHub (disable all other add-ons).
- Try Browse again.
- This tells us if there’s a conflict between AnkiHub and another add-on.
3. AnkiHub-specific checks
Since you mentioned syncing media “to the website,” I’ll assume you are:
- Subscribed to the AnKing Overhaul deck on AnkiHub, and
- Using the AnkiHub add-on to sync changes.
Please let us know:
-
Do crashes happen only when:
- Clicking the AnkiHub button in the browser,
- Running AnkiHub Sync, or
- Any time you open Browse even if AnkiHub isn’t used?
-
Can you:
- Sync normally with AnkiWeb (Sync button, not AnkiHub)?
- Open and review cards without issues (only Browse crashes)?
4. Concrete next steps
To move forward, please reply with:
- Anki version
- AnkiHub add-on version
- Whether Anki still crashes:
- When started with Shift (no add-ons)
- When started normally with only AnkiHub enabled
- Any error message you see (if a red error window appears before it crashes, copy the text, or screenshot and upload it).
Once you share those details in this topic, I can suggest more targeted steps (like resetting graphics settings, cleaning the collection, or isolating a specific conflicting add-on).
Hello,
I would be happy to help. ![]()
Let’s look at a couple of things:
When Anki crashes, do you see an error report of any kind? If so, can you share that report with us, just so we have a better idea of what may be going on?
Is there a particular action, specifically, that precipitates the crash? Is it when you hit sync, or is it random?
If you can, give this a quick try just to test something:
- Close Anki
- Open Anki while holding down the Shift button (this will load Anki in Safe Mode)
- Click sync
See if the crash still occurs then. Whether or not it does, it should give us some info as to what may be the root cause here
Hello, I was having a similar problem as well, whenever I would go and click on the browse function the rainbow loading wheel would appear. I then followed the steps where I went to tools–> check database and it worked. I am now able to browse the 35,000 cards. Does this in anyway compromise the deck I downloaded? Do I have to turn back on the add ons.
