Cards not showing up with AnKing Step Deck

Hi I upgraded my ankihub so I could utilize decks like AnKing and I can’t seem to use any of the cards. I correctly downloaded the deck as I can see the cards when I look on the browse tab. Then I tried to follow the instructions given in the intro card that was shown to me and it didn’t work. I highlighted all the cards in a subdeck and selected toggle suspend and nothing happened. I know this question has been asked in some form before but nothing I have read is working. I’m sure I’m just doing something incorrectly but I really don’t have any other ideas of what to try?

A couple of quick things to check that usually explain this:

1. Make sure you’re suspending cards, not notes

In the Browser:

  1. Open the Browse window.
  2. In the left sidebar, click the specific subdeck under your AnKing Step Deck.
  3. At the top of the browser, make sure you’re in the Cards mode, not Notes:
    • You should see a column called Card (with things like Cloze (AnKing vX)).
    • If you only see one row per note and no “Card” column, switch the selector at the top left from Notes to Cards.
  4. Now press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on Mac) to select all, then right‑click → Toggle Suspend (or press Ctrl+J).
  5. Confirm a yellow suspend icon appears next to each card (or disappears, if you’re unsuspending).

If nothing visually changes, you might already have them unsuspended.

2. Check if cards are actually due for review

Even if cards are unsuspended, Anki only shows cards that are new or due. Check:

  1. In the main Anki window, select your AnKing Step Deck (or the specific subdeck).
  2. Look under the deck name and confirm you see a blue “New” count (>0).
    • If New = 0, Anki thinks there are no new cards to show.
  3. Go to Deck Options → New Cards and check:
    • New cards/day is not set to 0.

You can also try: Tools → Preferences → Scheduling → [ ] v3 scheduler (if applicable) and make sure you’re on recommended settings, then restart Anki.

3. Filter to see only unsuspended cards in the Browser

In Browse, in the search bar at the top, try:

"deck:AnKing Step Deck::" is:suspended

and then

"deck:AnKing Step Deck::" -is:suspended

This will tell you if:

  • All cards are still suspended, or
  • They’re unsuspended but just not being shown as New due to settings.

4. Confirm you’re studying the right deck

Sometimes people study the main AnKing deck, but the cards they edited are in a subdeck (or vice‑versa).

  • In the main window, click the exact deck whose cards you just toggled.
  • Hit Study Now on that deck and see what happens.

If you’re still stuck:

  1. Post a screenshot of:
    • The main Anki window showing your AnKing Step Deck and counts.
    • The Browse window with:
      • The Step Deck selected in the left sidebar,
      • The search bar visible,
      • And one of the search queries above entered.
  2. Let me know exactly:
    • Whether the cards show a yellow suspend icon in the browser,
    • What the New / Learn / Review counts are for that deck.

With those, we can pinpoint what’s going wrong very quickly.
