December 2025 Malleus Clinical Medicine (AU/NZ) Update

Hey everyone!

As usual, we are comically late with this update. But nonetheless here is our final 2025 e-newsletter. As outlined in our previous newsletter, from this year (2026) we will be moving to Quarterly Updates, as directed by our new Publications and Promotions Officer.

  • We now have a public donations page through a ‘BuyMeACoffee’ link * here (all profits raised will go into the not-for-profit and financing resources to better support the project)

:people_hugging: New 2026 Committee

  • We have put together a new ‘About’ page here with all the current and future positions with emails to contact individual members across all portfolios

  • Our new structure to card creation has commenced in early January and more updates on this will be available in our upcoming 1st Quarterly Report for 2026

  • Therapeutic Guidelines and Clarity on AnkiHub’s Terms of Service

    • We are in ongoing discussions with the TG editors regarding how best to integrate TG media within the deck

    • We should have more clarity on this within the next month (they have requested some amendments to the AnkiHub Terms of Service, which the AnKing team have been working closely on)

    • The main pertinent * * AnkiHub ToS statement which is proving problematic (largely due to the broad application of this and lack of clarity of what this means for submitted content and IP-protected content used with permission) is:

“License Grant. You grant AnkiHub a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, and sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, distribute, and display such content in connection with our website and the Service. This license also includes the right to use the content for our promotional, advertising, and marketing purposes.”

  • eMedici

    • We are continuing to tag eMedici questions and align them with existing cards in the Malleus deck

    • If you would like to help out with this process (and gain access to a Malleus account with backend access to questions) please get in touch with us

  • AnKing Community-submitted images

    • We are also currently seeking permission from the AnKing team to establish a licensing arrangement where we could re-use some of the images of the AnKing project in our own Malleus deck with adequate attribution in our cards

    • This would be mutually beneficial, given the aligned visions of each of our projects to further medical education in our respective jurisdictions and utilising community submissions

:house_with_garden: On Anki’s New Owner

As we write this delayed newsletter, it would be remiss of us to not comment on the recent developments of Anki’s ownership being transferred to AnkiHub. While there are a wide number of views within our community on this, we echo the general sentiment of cautious optimism about this change - there is no question AnkiHub provides enormous value to the wider Anki community, and as long as the vision of open-source and accessibility is strongly adhered to as a matter of critical importance, we remain committed to supporting the Anking team in their attempts to invest new resources into Anki. We trust @dae’s judgement call here and want to give the AnKing team a ‘red hot go’ with this new honour at carrying forward the mission of Anki.

A personal note from Stapedius: As an early adopter of AnkiHub, Nick and the AnKing team have always engaged in good faith with me about Project Malleus over the past few years and supported me freely with back-end assistance and implementing new features to improve AnkiHub. While AnkiHub is a paid endeavour, they have provided this assistance free of charge. I do believe their team is genuinely and sincerely committed to improving medical education.
