January 2025 Malleus Clinical Medicine (AU/NZ) Update

We hope you’re starting 2025 on a high note! Here’s a comprehensive look at what we’ve been working on behind the scenes at Project Malleus. :hammer_and_wrench:

This update is packed with exciting milestones and new content, so grab a cup of coffee and dive in! :coffee:

:tada: Major Milestones

  • Registered Not-For-Profit
    • We are thrilled to announce that Project Malleus is now officially registered as a not-for-profit organisation with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)! :tada:
    • This milestone ensures the project’s long-term sustainability and supports our mission: to create a high-quality, peer-reviewed, open-source clinical medicine deck for senior medical students and junior doctors across Australia and New Zealand.
    • We’ve also initiated the formation of a full committee, with elections for key roles planned at our first Annual General Meeting later this year. Stay tuned for more details!
    • We currently have two Australian interns and a senior medical student holding the offices of:

:books: Deck Updates

  • Deck Stats: Just shy of 3000 cards now! :rocket:with another 450 pending final maintainer review!
  • Reduced #TO_BE_TAGGED cards to <300 (down from ~1000).
  • New topics include:
    • Approach to Chest Pain
    • Management of COPD exacerbations
    • Refined STEMI management
    • ECG cards (thanks to ECG Wave Maven Deck)
    • Pathology on infectious diseases
  • Database & Tagging Overhaul:
    • Fully tagged Talley & O’Connor’s Clinical Examination (8e) and Marshall & Ruedy’s On Call: Principles & Protocols ANZ (3e)
    • Integration of broad presenting complaints into the new OSCEs & Clinical Reasoning database
  • We have the new optional AnkiHub AI enabled within the Malleus deck which may be available to some users to test out, however at this stage it isn’t free to use (more information here)
  • You can always check the full list of the updates by clicking on the ‘AnkiHub’ → ‘Updated Since Last Review’ button on the upper left hand side of the browser within Anki

:globe_with_meridians: Website Updates

  • Updated ‘Create a card’ guide within Notion
  • Removed duplicate disease pages
  • Assignment of different icons to the databases: You can now easily visually identify whether the page is relevant to card creation if it has an icon signifying the database of origin

  1. Malleus Anki Helper Add-on
  • Update Database Button: Syncs with GitHub cache and Notion for seamless updates
  • Tagging Tools: Add/replace tags on existing cards
  • Expanded Databases: Includes #Textbooks and #Rotation databases alongside the existing #Subjects, #eTG, and #Pharmacology databases
  1. Malleus Chrome Extension
  • Now compatible with Life in the Fast Lane, RCH Melbourne, eMedici and Therapeutic Guidelines for dynamic tag searches!

  • eMedici: Exploring ways to integrate our deck with their question bank for enhanced learning.
