Hello,
I have created an MGH deck, but every time I update the cards it does not sync to ankihub or show up on the website. Do I have to suggest edits to myself and then accept them for basic cards changes to appear for everyone??
Another problem is that I can not post a community update, it will not open a post tagging to my deck. I also can not send questions to the AI chatbot. This website is very difficult to navigate.

Youâre very close â a few key pieces are likely missing in how the deck is set up and how youâre trying to interact with it on AnkiHub. Iâll break it down by issue:
1. Deck/card changes not showing up on AnkiHub
For your MGH deck to sync correctly:
-
Make sure the deck is actually an AnkiHub deck
- In Anki, open the deck.
- Go to Tools â Add-ons â AnkiHub â Config and check that:
- You are logged in with the same account youâre using on the website.
- In the Anki browser, select a card from your MGH deck and check the AnkiHub note ID field:
- If there is no AnkiHub note ID, the deck might not be linked/created properly on AnkiHub.
- If IDs are present, it should sync when you run AnkiHub sync.
-
Run an explicit AnkiHub sync
- In Anki: Tools â AnkiHub â Sync (or use the AnkiHub button if you have it).
- Wait for the sync to complete and see if there are any error messages shown by the add-on (e.g., rate limits, permission errors, etc.).
-
Owner vs. editor behavior
- If you are the owner of the deck on AnkiHub:
- Changes you make to notes in Anki and then sync via AnkiHub should immediately update the deck for everyone (after their next AnkiHub sync).
- You do not need to âsuggest editsâ to yourself for basic content changes.
- If you are not sure whether youâre marked as the deck owner on AnkiHub, please share:
- The AnkiHub deck URL, and
- A screenshot of the deck header on the web (showing owner/maintainers, if possible).
If you can, please also let us know:
- Are you seeing your deck listed under âMy Decksâ on AnkiHub?
- When you sync AnkiHub from Anki, do you see any indication that a deck is being updated?
With that info we can pinpoint whether itâs a linking/ownership issue or a sync problem.
2. Community update not opening / canât tag your deck
This usually means one of:
-
Youâre not recognized as the deck owner/maintainer on AnkiHub.
- Only owners (and possibly maintainers) can post official Community updates linked to that deck.
- If your username does not appear as the owner on the deck page, thatâs likely the cause.
-
You might be trying to create an update from the wrong place:
- On the deck page, there should be an option like âCreate Community Updateâ or similar.
- Make sure youâre starting from your deckâs page rather than the generic Community area.
If you share the URL of your MGH deck on AnkiHub, I can be more precise about what might be wrong (e.g., mislinked deck, ownership mismatch, or a bug).
3. Canât send questions to the AI chatbot
A few common blockers:
- Login / account issue: confirm you are logged in to AnkiHub with the same account as in Anki.
- Browser issues:
- Try a different browser (e.g., Chrome â Firefox) or an incognito/private window.
- Disable ad-blockers or script-blockers for
ankihub.net.
- UI not responding:
- What exactly happens when you click to open the AI chatbot?
- Does nothing happen at all?
- Do you see an error message?
- Does the window open but the send button does nothing?
If you can, a quick screenshot or short description (âchat window opens but send button grayed outâ, etc.) would be very helpful.
4. Next steps
To help you faster, please reply with:
- AnkiHub deck URL of your MGH deck.
- Confirmation that:
- You ran AnkiHub sync in Anki and
- Whether any error popup appeared.
- Whether your deck appears under âMy Decksâ on the AnkiHub website.
- Any screenshot of:
- The deck header on AnkiHub (showing owner), and/or
- The error/behavior when trying to post a Community update or use the chatbot.
I agree the site can feel confusing when things donât work as expected â once we see how your deck is set up on AnkiHub, we can walk you through the exact clicks to get updates, community posts, and the AI working.
Above is the link to the MGH deck.
I can successfully sync to ankihub, but the card changes do not appear in ankihub.

Thanks for the link and the clarificationâthat helps narrow it down.
Looking at your deck URL, a few things are likely going on:
1. Why your card changes arenât appearing on AnkiHub
Since you can successfully run AnkiHub Sync, but changes donât appear on the deck page, the most common causes are:
A. Your local notes arenât actually linked to this AnkiHub deck
Please check one card from the MGH deck in Anki:
- Open the Browse window in Anki.
- Select one of your MGH cards.
- Look in the Fields list on the right for something like âAnkiHub Note IDâ (or similar).
- If that field is empty or missing, your local note is not linked to the AnkiHub version of the deck.
- In that case:
- Either the deck was created on AnkiHub after you made the local deck and they were never linked, or
- You might have imported a local copy that isnât the same as the AnkiHub master.
If the notes arenât linked, AnkiHub sync will complete âsuccessfullyâ but has nothing to upload, so no changes appear on the site.
If youâre not sure, feel free to post a screenshot of:
- The card fields (showing whether there is an AnkiHub Note ID), and
- The top of the deck page on AnkiHub (showing owner/maintainers).
B. The deck might not be set up as an editable âshared AnkiHub deckâ
If the deck on AnkiHub was created in a way where your local version doesnât match the initial AnkiHub export, editing your local cards wonât affect the online deck.
In that case, the cleanest fix is often:
- Export your current local MGH deck (as a backup).
- Delete the local copy of the MGH deck in Anki (after backing up).
- In Anki, use AnkiHub â Download Decks (or similar) to download the MGH deck directly from AnkiHub.
- Edit that downloaded version and then run AnkiHub Sync.
This guarantees that:
- Every note has a valid AnkiHub Note ID, and
- Your edits are applied to the correct deck online.
2. You do not need to suggest edits to yourself (if you are the owner)
For a deck you own:
- Changes to note content in Anki + AnkiHub Sync â should directly become the new âsource of truthâ on AnkiHub.
- Suggested edits are mainly for contributors/subscribers, not for the owner.
But this only works if:
- You are truly listed as the deck owner on that deck page, and
- The notes in Anki are correctly linked (via AnkiHub Note IDs) to that deck.
If youâre willing, please confirm:
- On the deck page (
https://app.ankihub.net/decks/b98718f7-9bcd-40a5-a1f1-3a4739173fdf):
- Does it show you as the owner at the top?
- In Anki, for a card in that deck:
- Is there an AnkiHub Note ID field, and is it filled?
3. What I recommend you try next
- Check AnkiHub Note IDs in Anki:
- If theyâre missing â this is a linking problem; we should re-download the deck from AnkiHub and move your edits over.
- Confirm ownership on the AnkiHub deck page:
- If you are not listed as owner, your edits wonât behave as you expect and you also wonât be able to post community updates.
If you can, please reply with:
- A screenshot (or description) of the fields for one MGH card (showing whether thereâs an AnkiHub Note ID).
- Whether you are shown as Owner on the deck page.
Once we know those two things, I can give you exact, stepâbyâstep instructions to fix the linkage so that your changes actually appear on AnkiHub.
I canât post an image of it, there is no error indication. When I click community update it just takes me to the community page.
Hello,
To have your changes appear on AnkiHub and update your subscribersâ cards, follow this tutorial each time you suggest new cards or changes. If you are the owner or maintainer, you can simply check that box so they are auto-approved. If you already have suggestions on the AnkiHub website, you only need to accept them.

Tutorial: How to suggest a change to AnkiHub
The AI chatbot, First Aid and Boards and Beyond features should appear in the bottom-right corner when you are studying your cards:
If you canât see these features, please go to AnkiHub > Config on your Anki main screen and make sure the correct boxes are checked. Donât forget to save any changes you make.
Just a quick reminder: To access these features, you need a Premium membership, as the Core subscription does not include them.
Regarding the issue with the community update, Iâve seen this only once with a single user. Iâll search for it here and get back to you, but if you could provide more details, such as screenshots and a screen recording, it would be extremely helpful.
Focusing on cards first- I can not just make a new card in the ankihub deck â click sync to ankihub â and the new card be on the ankihub deck for every subscriber?? I do not want to have to suggest edits for a deck.
Unfortunately, thatâs not how it works. You have to suggest any new cards or changes by following that tutorial.
What you can do is submit bulk suggestions. Select all the cards you want to suggest, right-click, and select âBulk Suggest.â
Other than that, there is no other way to upload new cards or changes to your AnkiHub deck. This is designed to avoid confusion and keep the process entirely intentional.
Let me know if you need help with anything else.
Thank you very much!! I also am running into not being able to update notes because the anki ID already exists. I assume this is because I copy my note template and edit it to make new notes. Is there any way I can edit anki IDâs?
Making a copy of a note template isnât the issue. Itâs just a template. The Anki cards/notes that have the IDs.
Could you please specify what you mean by update notes? Is this issue only on your Anki? Does it happen when you try to sync changes to AnkiHub? If you could please provide screenshots, that would help me understand it better.
This is happening because you already have these notes on the deck. For example, this one has the same ID. If you suggest notes that already exist and they donât have any new changes, the suggestion will fail because there is nothing to change.
I copy the original note, edit it, and it is a new note. Ankihub does not recognize copies as new notes. Ankiweb does. Is there any way to edit the anki ID behind the note? For example, this is a ânewâ note that it says already exists. Most of my notes are copies from a different with the fields edited to save time on formatting.
I performed a broad search and couldnât find a reliable way to change Anki IDs. Anki does not allow two notes to share the same ID. When you click to copy a note in Anki, youâre simply redirected to add a new note with the same content. Once added, itâs assigned a new ID, so Iâm not entirely sure which copy process youâre referring to.
To clarify, did you upload your entire deck to AnkiHub, copy every card, edit them, and then try to upload them again? Could you please explain the steps you followed from initially uploading your deck to now trying to upload edited copies of those same notes with the same Anki ID?
I am uploading a deck based on an internal medicine handbook. I initially uploaded about 50 cards. I made 5 more in a section under Heart Failure. I copied a note from, say, Pancreatitis, then I edited the title and content of the card to be heart failure. I changed the tags and the card location to be under Heart Failure. Still, these new cards and several do not have a âShow card on ankihubâ option. When I choose âsuggest a new cardâ it says the card already exists.
It sounds like there are a few things going on, and Iâm having a little trouble following your current workflow.
I would be happy to troubleshoot this with you, though the situation is becoming a bit complex. Could you clarify what you mean by copying? Copying cards is not a standard practice in Anki and is generally not very reliable if you find some way to do so.
It is likely that the cards you are editing are duplicates that arenât recognized by AnkiHub. The âshow on AnkiHubâ option isnât available because these are technically new cards that arenât linked to the platform. Additionally, AnkiHub will not allow you to upload them because the original version is already on the server.
I see that you have some subscribers, but Iâm not sure how much time you have invested in this deck. My recommendation would be to delete the current deck and start fresh with a new one, being careful to avoid using copied flashcards.
But as I said, I would be happy to troubleshoot this with you. A little bit more context and explaining exactly what you have done would be pretty useful
Yes, they are duplicated cards with edited information. Ankihub does not recognize these as new cards. I could remake them as cards from scratch for others (and it seems like I have to), but I have personally reviewed these cards dozens of times and donât want to lose progress. I also would like to not lose the 50 subscribers, as I canât alert them to resubscribe.
I believe I have to delete each duplicate, create new ones from scratch and then âsuggest new cardâ to sync the new cards to ankihub.
Then personally I will edit the intervals and due dates to match my prior usage of the duplicated cards (so I dont have to restudy all the cards from scratch). What a nightmare!
Iâm sorry for the trouble. Iâm going to tag one of the developers so he can take a look at that and see if there is any workaround or anything we can do to help you!

Can you select any card with the issue in the browser and send a screenshot of the Cards > Info screen?
