Downloaded sketchy micro pepper deck and it changed my anking deck - help!

I downloaded the sketchy micro pepper deck onto my profile that has Anking v12 downloaded already and I think it changed my cards on my Anking deck. It looks like I have fewer cards than I did before and I’m not sure if it changed more cards than I am aware of. Is there a way to reset the sketchy cards without resetting the entire Anking deck and possibly erasing my progress?

Hello,

Did you download the Sketchy Micro deck from Ankihub, or somewhere else?

Keep in mind that some of those cards would have been folded into the Step Deck, so they will necessarily overlap (and overwrite) each other.

Hi,

Yes, I downloaded them from reddit. I’m kind of new to using Anki and I didn’t realize that clicking the link would directly download into my deck and change my cards.

Since it’s a deck from outside of Ankihub there’s not a ton I can do there, unfortunately.

The one thing you can do is to restore from a backup. Let’s say, for example, you installed the Micro deck this morning. You could restore to a backup from last night, or yesterday, and this would restore your collection to that point in time.

This will erase any progress you’ve made in the last day or so, but will restore you collection back to that point in time.

Alternately, you can choose to reset the changes made to the Anking deck though I might recommend some caution here just because it’s probably not super advisable to have both the Step Deck and the Pepper Deck in your collection simultaneously as it’s likely to cause some overlap and interference and will be, by definition, a bit redundant.

Let me know what you’d most like to accomplish and I’m happy to be of help however I can.

So I haven’t manually created any backups for my anking deck since I’ve started using it - does anking automatically create backups?

If not - If choosing to reset the changes made to the anking deck, will this maintain the progress I have? Because I’ve been using the Uworld Qid addon and those are the bulk of the cards I really would not want to change. Even if there is redundancy I would prefer that.

Can you help me reset the changes made to the Anking deck please?

Anki will automatically make backups at various intervals.

Resetting local changes will retain progress, yeah.

This is a tutorial that can walk you through how to reset local changes to a given deck: Resetting Local Changes

Given the presence of the Pepper deck I can’t promise that there won’t be some interference, but resetting this will undo any content-changes to the cards that belong to the Anking deck.

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Ok, I will give this a try. Thank you so much. One last question before I try resetting local changes… will there be a backup of my progress already saved before I do this in case there’s too much interference and I just want to revert?

It worked! Thank you so much

Anki makes backups periodically for you automatically, though you can also make one manually whenever you like.

Glad to hear it worked for you; please reach out if you have any other questions.
