Is this “good” normal for FSRS when learning a new card? My retention is set to 95%. When learning a new card I find I can forget a lot in 2 days versus 1 day. In the previous model new learning cards were shown again in 1 day so it makes me stressed seeing a new card after 2 days.
Hello,
The intervals you shared in the first image are from your learning steps, and are not from FSRS. Learning steps are independent of FSRS, just FYI.
But yes, they appear to be normal intervals for learning steps.
For the second image, there aren’t really ‘normal’ intervals for FSRS. The idea of the FSRS algorithm is that it will adjust your intervals based on your review history and performance. Thus, what is ‘normal’ for everyone will vary considerably, especially once you start adjusting desired retention.
TL; DR: there isn’t really a ‘normal’ interval, for the most part. It depends on a lot of different factors, some of which will be unique to your collection and your review history.
FSRS will adjust to your review history over time. This is part of the rational behind making sure that you hit ‘optimize’ every few weeks, so that it can tailor its algorithm to your review history.
If it turns out that you are, in fact, forgetting a lot on day 2 then it will adjust accordingly and change the intervals that it gives you.
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
