Using AnKing Step Deck on an iPad

Hi there! I understand you’re trying to add the AnKing Step Deck to your iPad. Currently, the process requires a bit of a workaround since the AnkiHub add-on (which is needed for the deck) only works on desktop computers.

The iPad Challenge

AnkiHub works through an add-on for the desktop version of Anki, but unfortunately, this add-on cannot be installed directly on iPads. However, there is a solution!

Here’s how to get the AnKing Step Deck on your iPad:

  1. Use a desktop/laptop computer first:

    • You’ll need temporary access to a desktop or laptop computer with Anki installed
    • Install the AnkiHub add-on on the desktop version
    • Create an AnkiHub account
    • Purchase a membership on the AnkiHub website
    • Subscribe to the AnKing Step Deck through the AnkiHub website
    • Sync the deck to your AnkiWeb account
  2. Sync to your iPad:

    • Once the deck is on your AnkiWeb account, open AnkiMobile on your iPad
    • Sign in with the same AnkiWeb account
    • Sync your iPad app, and the deck will download to your device
  3. Ongoing updates:

    • For future updates to the deck, you’ll need to periodically use a desktop computer
    • Sync on the desktop to get updates, then sync on your iPad to receive them

Important Note

The AnkiHub add-on is required for initial setup and future updates. While you can study the deck on your iPad after syncing, you won’t be able to receive updates directly on the iPad without first syncing through a desktop computer with the add-on installed.

If you need more detailed instructions, I recommend checking out the AnKing Step Deck Wiki and Downloading the AnKing Step Deck pages on our community forum.

Hello,

The bot has already detailed the process, but here’s a clear summary:

Unfortunately, you’ll need access to a desktop or laptop at least the first time — and again whenever you want to receive updates.

Once you have access, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have an active membership: Sign In
  2. Install the AnkiHub add-on: Install AnkiHub Add-on (New User)
  3. Subscribe to and install the deck: Subscribe/Install Step Deck (New User)
  4. Start using the deck: How to Get Started Studying

After that, click Sync on Anki’s main screen and wait for it to complete (the first sync may take some time depending on your internet connection). During this process, Anki will ask for your AnkiWeb login (not the AnkiHub one).

Then, log in with the same AnkiWeb account on your iPad and tap Sync. From then on, any time you want to receive updates, just sync (with the AnkiHub add-on and then with the Anki sync) on the desktop/laptop first — and then sync on your iPad.

Let me know if you have any questions about any of these steps!

You’re welcome! The previous explanation covers exactly what you need to do to get the AnKing Step Deck working on your iPad.

To summarize the key points:

  1. You’ll need temporary access to a desktop or laptop computer since the AnkiHub add-on only works on desktop versions of Anki
  2. After setting up on desktop (creating account, purchasing membership, subscribing to the deck), you’ll sync with AnkiWeb
  3. Then you can access the deck on your iPad by syncing with the same AnkiWeb account

This is the standard workflow for all AnkiHub decks, as they rely on the desktop add-on for installation and updates. Once synced, you can study normally on your iPad, but future updates will require access to a desktop again.

If you have any other questions or run into any issues during setup, feel free to ask!
