I have 25,686 notes for the anking v12 step 1 tag and 20929 for the anking v12 step 2 tag. My friend who recently downloaded the deck has about the same give or take 100. I’m curious why I have 25.6K notes and on ankihub there is 28K notes.
Thanks for your support.
I’ll help you understand why there might be a difference in note counts between your deck and what’s shown on AnkiHub. Let me search for relevant information to better answer your question.

Thank you for your question about the note count in the AnKing V12 Step Deck.
Based on what I can find in the forum, there are a couple of important things to understand about the note count differences you’re seeing:
-
Current deck size: A similar question was asked in the AnKing Step Deck Wiki where a user mentioned having 30,553 cards in their deck and asked if that was the correct number. This suggests there may be variations in the total count depending on when you downloaded the deck and what updates have been applied.
-
Continuous updates: One of the main features of AnkiHub is that the AnKing Step Deck receives continuous updates. As mentioned in one post, in just 6 months they made over 500,000+ changes to V12. These updates can include adding new notes, modifying existing ones, or even removing outdated content.
-
Official count vs. your count: The discrepancy between your 25.6K notes and the 28K notes shown on AnkiHub is likely due to either:
- New content that has been added since you downloaded your deck
- Filtered content based on your specific tag selections during installation
- Potential differences in how notes are counted between your local Anki and AnkiHub’s reporting
Since your friend has a similar count to yours (with only a small difference of about 100 notes), it suggests that your installation is probably correct, but may not include the most recent updates available on AnkiHub.
To ensure you have the most up-to-date version:
- Open AnkiHub add-on in Anki
- Check for available updates to your AnKing V12 deck
- Apply any updates that are available
If you’re concerned about the specific difference, you might want to check the Step 1 updates log and Step 2 updates log to see what changes have been made recently.
Hello,
I would be happy to help.
It’s hard to pin down small variations. It could be that you, or your friend, at one point had a previous version of the AnKing deck, or that cards were deleted from the deck but persist in your local collection, or in-house decks that might share a tag, there are a number of reasons that your collection might differ by small amounts.
Not generally a point of concern, though, and it’s not something I would worry about terribly much
Just to clarify: there are 28k notes in the deck total, though the ‘25.6k’ number you’re referencing appears to be just the Step1 tag. There are more cards in the deck than just those that are tagged by Step1, FWIW.
Thus, if you total up the cards, say, that are tagged by Step 1 as well as other cards (that are tagged by, say, Step 2 or Step 3 and are not tagged by Step 1) you will arrive at 28.6k cards. This can also be seen if you click on the deck from the Browse screen, rather than using individual tags.
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
Thanks Brian! This was it. I counted the notes in the step 1 tag only by filtering out step 2, vice a versa for step 2, then added the double tagged step 1/2 cards and came to 28K notes thereabout.
Thanks for the clarification!
