Question about Bnb tag card count for Step1 v12 Anking deck

I recently synced my anking step1 v12 deck with ankihub for the updates. But i noticed my Bnb card tag count decreased from from 21710 cards to 21287 cards(423 cards difference). I know that’s not much but I wanted to compare cards counts with anyone that has the anking v12 deck? I asked one of my friends who had ~23k cards under their Bnb tag so I’m not sure what the “correct” card count for the Bnb tag should be lol. Tried looking through forums on Ankihub and reddit but couldn’t find a consensus. I would appreciate it if you guys have any input on the total number of cards tagged for step1 Bnb and maybe FA as well while we are at it

You’re not doing anything wrong—differences in BnB tag counts between users are normal, and there isn’t a single “correct” number that everyone will match.

A few key points that usually explain this:

  1. Tag counts vary by version & updates

    • v12 on AnkiHub is continuously updated (errata fixed, cards retired/merged, tags cleaned up, etc.).
    • If your friend’s deck isn’t synced to the exact same AnkiHub snapshot (or they’re on an older/offline version), their BnB count can easily be a few hundred cards different.
  2. Personal deck changes affect counts
Differences of a few hundred cards often come from:

    • Suspended vs. unsuspended cards
    • Cards you deleted or moved to other decks
    • Custom tags added/removed or retagging scripts
    • Not having all subdecks / child tags included when you’re checking counts
  3. How to best compare your numbers
To minimize noise when comparing with others, make sure:

    • You’re both on AnKing Step 1 v12 from AnkiHub, fully synced (AnkiHub add-on → “Sync with AnkiHub”).
    • You both search the same way, e.g. in the Browser:
      • Search: tag:"AnKing::Step1::Brosencephalon" (or whatever the exact BnB tag path is in your deck)
      • Make sure “Show cards in subdecks” is enabled if applicable.
  4. About your specific change (21,710 → 21,287)
A drop of ~400 cards after syncing is well within what you’d expect from:

    • Duplicate/low‑quality/problematic cards being retired
    • Tag reorganization (cards moved from BnB to other, more accurate tags, like FA or Only_Step tags)
    • Small structural changes to cloze deletions or note types

I don’t have an authoritative current BnB and FA card count for v12 because this can change with each AnkiHub update, and it will differ slightly user to user depending on custom edits.

If you want, you can reply here with:

  • A screenshot of the Browser showing your BnB tag search and the card count, and
  • Confirmation that you’ve recently “Synced with AnkiHub” successfully

and I can help you verify that everything looks consistent with what we’d expect for an up‑to‑date v12 deck.

Hello,

You have the correct number of cards for BnB under the Step 1 tag. The values can vary a little bit compared to your friends’ because it’s hard to know if they’re fully up to date or if they have older cards in their collections.

For First Aid for Step 1, it’s around 27,500 cards.

You can rest assured that you will be up to date every time AnkiHub syncs with your Anki. If you really think you’re missing something, you can follow this tutorial to reset local changes; your Anki deck will then update to match the exact same server version everyone else has: How to Reset Local Changes
