How to convert own cards to AnKing card types? (basic and reversed)

Hi yall! Trying to standardize my decks so that it doesnā€™t look like a mess while Iā€™m studying, so Iā€™ve been going through and changing the note types to AnKing Overhaul and AnKing Basic. Iā€™ve run into a problem though - for the cards that were originally ā€œBasic and Reversedā€ card, I canā€™t convert to AnKing Basic without losing one of the sides of the card. So I tried to duplicate the AnKing Basic type and then go into browse ā†’ cardsā€¦ ā†’ add card ā†’ flip. is this the way to go about it? the ā€œlineā€ separating the front and back is looking off-centered, is there a way to fix this?

Hello,

From the Browse screen, you can select a given card and click here:

This should allow you to convert specific notes between note types as well as to specify which field is imported into which other field:

Let me know if that works for you.

Hi @Brian_BH, thanks for responding! I tried to do that, but what happens is, if I convert a Basic (and reversed) card to the AnKIng Basic types, Iā€™m actually losing the reverse side. Maybe this screenshot will show what Iā€™m talking aboutā€¦ essentially, since the Basic and Reverse generates two cards from one note, I canā€™t just change the Card 1ā€™s to AnKing Basic and then change the Card 2ā€™s to AnKing Basic - theyā€™re linked together as one note

If you go into your Browser, all of the ā€˜frontā€™ cards should be ā€˜card 1ā€™ and all of the ā€˜reverseā€™ cards should be ā€˜card 2ā€™ (this is just a random example that I made):

You may need to do all of the card 1ā€™s at once, then go back and do all of the card 2ā€™s, in order to avoid this limitation of Anki.

Let me know if that works for you and weā€™ll go from there.

Hmā€¦ I have selected an example card 2 and tried to change it. It is still giving me the ā€œcard 2 will be removedā€ message, and when I do change it, it deletes the card 1.

Hereā€™s what it looks like when I do update it:

I think it comes down to the note type youā€™re trying to convert it to, though Iā€™m not sure, tbh. The basic note type is not one I see used very much, and donā€™t personally use it, so I donā€™t have a lot of experience with it.

You might have to tinker with other note types as the destination type. At least on my end I show that Iā€™m able to convert it to other Basic note types without issue, so it may just come down to tinkering until you find something that will work for the specific cards that youā€™ve created (and/or the note type to which youā€™re trying to convert it).

OK, Iā€™ve found the solution. I duplicated all the notes that were Basic and Reversed, then converted the originals, and then converted the duplicates backward. that seemed to do the trick. thanks!
