Like the other fields, I want to be able to select whether it opens automatically or by clicking on it, but that option isnāt given in the AnKing Note Types add-on.

Youāre right that the AnKing Note Types add-on UI doesnāt expose a āshow as hint vs. auto-openā toggle for the Extra field the way it does for some other fields.
A few key points:
-
By default, Extra is not a hint field
In the AnKing/AnKingMed note types, theExtrafield is usually rendered automatically on the answer side. Itās intended as always-visible supplemental info rather than a clickable hint, so the add-on doesnāt list it in the āHint controlā options. -
Changing this isnāt currently supported via the AnKing Note Types add-on
To my knowledge, there isnāt a built-in setting in the add-on that will turnExtrainto a standard hint field (e.g., tap-to-reveal) likeFirst Aid,BG, etc. -
Workaround (manual template editing)
If you really wantExtrato behave like a hint, the only way is to manually edit the card templates in Anki (not through the AnKing Note Types add-on interface). Conceptually, you would:- Open the note type in Anki ā Cardsā¦
- Find where
{{Extra}}is placed on the Back template. - Wrap it with the same HTML/CSS/JS the note type uses for other hint fields (for example, copying the structure around a field that already behaves as a hint and swapping in
Extra).
However, this is advanced and:
- Can easily break the note typeās layout/JS if not done carefully.
- May be overwritten if you later update the note type via the add-on/AnkiHub.
Because of that, unless youāre comfortable hand-editing templates and potentially re-applying changes after note type updates, Iād not recommend doing it.
Bottom line:
- Using the official AnKing Note Types add-on alone, you currently cannot toggle the
Extrafield between āauto-openā and āclick-to-openā like a normal hint field. - The only way is manual template customization in Anki, which isnāt officially supported via the add-on and may be fragile across updates.
If youād like, I can outline a general step-by-step of what to look for in your templates so you (or someone more template-savvy) can implement it safely.
Hello,
I would be happy to help. ![]()
To the best of my knowledge it is not possible to hide the Extra field in the same way, owing to the way that the note type is built
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if thereās anything else I can help with. ![]()
Yes that answers it, thank you for the reply
