i use the tagged cheesy dorian as a deck and sometimes edit the cards for my own use. is it possible that somehow when i sync, ankihub removes my edits and bring it back to the original form? like i browsed and some of my edits are there in some cards but a few edits disappeared on a few cards like probably 5

Reading: ✏️ Collaborate on a Deck

Hello @heavilyarmedpuppy,

Yes, when you’re using a subscribed AnkiHub deck like Cheesy Dorian and making personal edits, those edits can sometimes be overwritten during syncing. This happens because AnkiHub treats the original deck content as the “source of truth.”

Why Your Edits Are Disappearing

When you sync with AnkiHub, the system checks for updates to the deck from the original maintainers. If there are updates, they can overwrite your personal edits to the cards.

Solutions for Keeping Your Edits

There are two main approaches you can take:

1. Submit Your Edits as Suggestions

If you think your edits would benefit everyone, you can submit them as suggestions to the deck maintainers:

  • Edit the card
  • Click the “:crown: Suggest a change” button in the editor
  • Add your rationale for the change
  • The maintainers will review and possibly incorporate your suggestion

2. Reset Local Changes Selectively

To preserve the original deck for reference while maintaining your changes:

To keep using your edited cards:

  • Consider creating a separate personal deck with copies of the cards you want to modify
  • This way, you can update the original AnkiHub deck while keeping your personalized versions

To restore cards to original form:
If you ever want to revert back to the original version:

  1. Right-click on a card in the browser
  2. Select “AnkiHub: Reset Local Changes”
  3. Click OK

For multiple cards or an entire deck, you can:

  1. Go to Browse in Anki
  2. Navigate to the AnkiHub menu
  3. Select “reset all local changes to a deck”
  4. Choose your deck

This feature is specifically designed to help users who want to revert their personal changes and get back to the official deck content.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions about managing your personal edits with AnkiHub.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

Unless you protect particular fields, it is both possible and quite likely that individual edits will eventually be overwritten by AnkiHub, as AnkiHub functions precisely by editing your local fields by design.

If you prefer, you can protect a given field by following this tutorial: Managing Protected Fields

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
