Saving Edits

I have noticed that my edits (additional images, lecture notes, explanations etc) will disappear every time there is an update to the parent Anking deck. Is there a way to receive the updates without compromising my edits?

Your edits are probably being overwritten because those fields are not protected in AnkiHub when the parent AnKing deck updates.

AnkiHub can preserve your personal edits during updates by using protected fields.

1. Check which fields are already protected

For the AnKing Step-style decks, AnkiHub automatically protects fields like:

  • Lecture Notes
  • Missed Questions
  • Pathoma
  • Boards and Beyond
  • First Aid
  • Additional Resources
  • Physeo

These should not be overwritten by updates.

It does not automatically protect, for example:

  • Text
  • Extra
  • Sketchy
  • Pixorize

If you’re adding your images/notes into these unprotected fields, they can be changed by updates.

2. Protect the fields you’re editing

You can change what’s protected for your subscription:

  1. Open the AnkiHub add-on in Anki.
  2. Go to your AnKing deck’s subscription settings.
  3. Find Protected fields.
  4. Enable protection for the fields where you add:
    • your images,
    • lecture notes,
    • explanations, etc.
  5. Sync with AnkiHub again.

There’s a step‑by‑step tutorial here (linked from the official FAQ):

If you’re not sure which exact fields your edits live in, take a screenshot of the card editor showing your added content and I can walk you through which fields to protect.
