Can I add my own images to the anking step deck?

Hi, I was wondering if adding my own images to the anking step deck is a problem? When the deck updates will these images stay?
Thanks!

Yes, you can definitely add your own images to the AnKing Step deck! When you make these personal customizations, you’ll want to make sure they aren’t overwritten when the deck updates through AnkiHub. Here’s how to handle this:

How to Keep Your Custom Images During Updates

The AnKing Step deck has different fields for different types of content, and AnkiHub allows you to protect specific fields so they won’t be overwritten during updates.

Your options:

  1. Add images to already protected fields:

    • Fields like “Lecture Notes,” “Missed Questions,” “Pathoma,” and “Boards and Beyond” are automatically protected
    • These are ideal places to add your personal images
  2. Protect specific fields on individual cards:

    • If you want to add images to the Text or Extra fields (which aren’t protected by default)
    • Right-click on the card → Select “AnkiHub: Protect Fields” → Choose which field to protect
    • This will add a tag like AnkiHub_Protect::Text to that specific card
  3. Protect fields globally:

    • Go to the AnkiHub website
    • Navigate to your deck → Click the 3 dots in the top right → “Manage protected data”
    • Select the fields you want to protect across all cards

This way, when the deck updates, your custom images will remain intact in the protected fields.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

The short answer is: it depends

If you make edits to a field that AnkiHub controls, they may very well be overwritten with subsequent syncs (as AnkiHub functions by writing to your fields, by design)

There are two ways around this:

  • You can protect a given field on AnkiHub. This is a trade-off, however: it means that your edits will be preserved though it also means you can’t receive updates to that field.
  • Or, you can make edits to fields like Lecture Notes and Missed Questions, which by design are intended for personal use and are not edited by AnkiHub. In general, this is the wiser approach

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
