Missing Cards

I closed my anki application but when I opened it again suddenly cards were missing under each boards and beyond video tag? For example when I navigate to the “osteoporosis” video there are only 3 cards there when I know that’s not right and there should be much more. How can I get my cards back?? I am freaking out a little

I’ll help you with this issue. Let me search for some information about missing cards in AnkiHub to provide you with the best solution.

Missing Cards - How to Find Your Cards Again

Hi Hcollinsdoijode,

Don’t worry - your cards are most likely still there, but they may just be filtered or hidden based on your current view. This is a common issue in Anki, especially after closing and reopening the application. Let me help you find your missing cards!

Quick Solutions to Try:

1. Check Your Sync Status

First, make sure you’re fully synced with AnkiHub. Click the sync button in the main Anki window to ensure you have all the latest cards.

2. Check Your Browse Filters

Your screenshot shows you’re in the Browse view with what appears to be a tag filter applied. The most likely issue is that you’re viewing cards through a specific filter that’s only showing a subset of your cards.

Try these steps:

  • In the Browse window, clear any filters by clicking the “X” next to any active filters
  • Make sure you’re viewing “All Decks” in the dropdown at the top
  • Try searching for the specific topic (“osteoporosis”) in the search bar without any tag restrictions

3. Check Your Tag Structure

AnkiHub decks typically have hierarchical tag structures. When viewing by tags:

  • Make sure you’re not looking at a subtag that only contains a few cards
  • Try navigating up one level in the tag hierarchy to see if more cards appear

4. Check Card States

Your cards might be suspended or buried:

  • In Browse view, try searching for “tag:osteoporosis is:suspended” to see if cards are suspended
  • Go to your deck options to see if “Bury siblings” is activated, which might be hiding some cards

Need More Help?

If you’re still missing cards after trying these steps, please provide more details:

  • Which specific AnkiHub deck are you using (Boards and Beyond appears to be the one)?
  • Did you make any changes before closing Anki?
  • Are you missing cards from all tags or just specific ones?

You can also check out the official FAQ about syncing cards for additional troubleshooting steps.

Don’t worry, your cards should still be there - it’s just a matter of finding the right view to see them all!

I’m using #AK_Step1_v11 and #B&B

I didn’t make any changes

I am missing cards from all tags under #AK_Step1_v11 –> #B&B

I don’t think any of the steps you suggested resolved the issue.

I’ll help you troubleshoot this issue with missing cards in your AnKing Step 1 deck with B&B tags. Let me search for more specific information about this problem.

Missing Cards - Solving the Issue with Buried Cards

Hi Hcollinsdoijode,

Thanks for providing that additional information. Based on your response and what I can see in your screenshot, I believe your issue is likely related to buried cards. Let me explain what’s happening and how to fix it:

What’s Happening: Buried Siblings

When you’re using the AnKing Step 1 deck (AK_Step1_v11) with Boards and Beyond (B&B), Anki might be automatically burying “sibling” cards. This is a feature in Anki that temporarily hides related cards until the next day to prevent you from seeing similar content in the same study session.

How to Fix It:

1. Unbury Your Cards

The quickest solution is to unbury all your cards:

  • Go to the main deck screen
  • Click on your deck
  • Look at the bottom of the deck overview screen
  • Click the Unbury button (it should say something like “Unbury All”)

This should immediately make all your buried cards visible again.

2. Check Your Browser View Settings

In the browser (where your screenshot is from):

  • Make sure you’re looking at Cards view, not Notes view
  • Check if you have any filters that might be hiding cards (like “is:new” or “is:due”)

3. Adjust Your Bury Settings for the Future

To prevent this from happening again:

  • Click on your deck
  • Click the gear icon (:gear:) to access deck options
  • Look for the “Bury siblings” settings
  • Consider disabling “Bury new siblings” and/or “Bury review siblings” if you prefer to see all related cards in one session

Additional Troubleshooting:

If unburying doesn’t reveal your cards:

  1. Check for suspensions: Search for “tag:B&B is:suspended” to see if cards are suspended
  2. Reset your view: Close the browser and reopen it to clear any cached filters
  3. Verify the tag hierarchy: Make sure you’re viewing the complete tag tree (sometimes subtags only show a portion of cards)

Let me know if unburying your cards resolves the issue. If not, we can explore other potential solutions!

Hello,

Please use the “Reset Local Changes” function to ensure your collection is in sync with the version on the AnkiHub website and that you aren’t missing any cards. Here is a tutorial: How to Reset Local Changes

For your reference, this is how the new Step 1 B&B tags should look:

Let me know if this solves your issue!

Hello,

It may also be worth noting that, from the image you shared, you appear to be using the v11 tags which are not the current tags for the Step deck (which would be the v12 tags).

I can’t see from the image you shared if you also have the v12 tags, though I would recommend against using v11 for the most part as they are fairly outdated at this point. Presuming you do have the v12 tags in your collection you can safely delete the v11 ones as they are not updated, or otherwise affected, by syncing with AnkiHub.
