My cloze deletion show emoji instead of the answer, and have to click on it or press 'n'

Hi everyone! Have a weird issue- using OrthoKing anki deck, and downloaded the most recent version. Now what happens is that for certain cards, if I click space bar or ‘show answer’ an emoji shows up instead of the answer, and I either have to press ‘n’ or click on the emoji itself to reveal the answer. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you.

Hi Impoortho!

From the screenshots you’ve shared, it looks like you’re encountering interactive cloze deletions in the OrthoKing deck. This is actually an intentional feature rather than a bug!

What you’re seeing is a hint system where:

  1. The emoji (:memo:) appears when you first reveal the answer
  2. You need to click on the emoji or press ‘n’ to fully reveal the hidden content

This interactive cloze feature is designed to make studying more effective by:

  • Making you actively engage with the material
  • Giving you a moment to think about your answer before seeing the full solution
  • Breaking the revelation of information into steps

To use these cards effectively:

  1. Review the question
  2. Press spacebar or click “Show Answer”
  3. When you see the emoji, either click on it or press ‘n’ to reveal the complete answer

If you find this feature distracting, you might need to check if there are settings in the deck that allow you to disable the interactive clozes. However, this feature is generally considered beneficial for learning and retention.

Let me know if you have any other questions about using this feature in the OrthoKing deck!

Please follow the steps:

  1. Open the the Edit screen of any affected card.
  2. Click the “Cards…” button at the top left of the editor.
  3. Find the line saying var autoflip = false at the top of the Front Template and just change false to true.
