I protect the extra field on random cards intermittently when i donāt care about receiving updates on them/they already have sufficient AnKing diagrams/images in the field. I protect them so that when I add my own pics to my protected Lecture Notes field, both my images and the Anking images can fit all in the same window without overflowing off the screen, making me scroll to see the content.
Iām noticing lately that despite protecting Lecture Notes and the random Extra fields, the next time I sync and see the card, the size of the images I modified and protected has been readjusted back to its original! The images remain in the arrangement I put them (side by side), but they donāt stay the size I adjusted them to.
Size adjustments also happen to all my wholly-protected Lecture Notes field images in that if I shrink them today, theyāve expanded. Itās sometimes enough to cut text in the Extra section below off the screen, meaning I have to once again readjust the sizing.
Any idea what setting I can toy with or styling modifications I can make so this stops happening? This issue annoys me to no end because I thought protecting a field would eliminate any changes from happening to those fields with syncing.
Thanks for any help / advice!
Example:
1st screenshot: How the card used to look after I adjusted and protected the extra field like 4 days ago
2nd screenshot: How the card looks now despite protecting it; the left pic obviously returned to its normal dimensions and itās so annoying for me to have to readjust stuff bc i thought protecting would keep it as is.
My first instinct is to question if this is related to syncing, or AnkiHub, at all. It may not be related to syncing, so much as a local settings issue and/or an Anki issue. If thatās the case, protecting fields wonāt have been a relevant factor here.
Just to check, first: are you using the AnKing Note Types addon, and/or any other addons (particularly ones that might be related to styling or formatting)?
Iāve messed with the Note Types Image Styling settings before with not much help. Thatās the first place I went when i noticed this issue happening and I adjusted it to see if it would stop the occurrence, it didnāt change anything.
I feel like the issue has to do with some max height/width setting being set to some %, with another H/W setting elsewhere (no idea where though) listed as another different %.
My Note Types Image Styling = 40% (in an attempt to decrease image size expansion with this issue). I clicked āupdate anking note typesā just now and saved settings then went into the card styling and the following settings are new - I think I had the #extra img. and other fields at either 40-50% but never 85 and 60.
Different card than my original inquiry, but same issue - sorry, took me a minute to find a card I was sure Iāve adjusted previously that went back to its original dimensions, then realized i just sent one after readjusting it again and had to find another lol)
And like i know for a fact iāve adjusted that cardās image layout/dimensions before because the Extra pics are side by side like i like them, as are the Lecture Notes pics, but images in both fields should be the same height (nitpicky ik) and theyāre not, indicating the protected fields reverted to some previous setting after I protected their adjustments.
Ik itās all semantics and nitpicking and I probs shouldnāt waste my time bothering with it, but itās just a weird preference thing of mine, it makes the cards w multiple images appear less distracting to me
I did some tests and I think itās unlikely to be related to protected fields. AnkiHub doesnāt do partial adjustments to fields. If you do size adjustments to a field now and sync, do you immediately see the issue? If so, can you post screenshots of the field contents before / after the issu?
It doesnāt do it immediately upon syncing. This card, for example, has been protectedā¦ when i opened it today (havenāt opened it in a while), it looked like this (first 2 images); should look like second 2 images. I synced, restarted app, and it still had my adjustments preservedā¦ itās hard for me to tell when Anki decides to override the adjustments, but it happens often, just not immediately upon syncing, so Iām sorry if thatās not very helpful. Should it happen tomorrow, iāll attach screenshots.
