Editing "Extra" image size/layout without losing changes w. every AnkiHub update?

I’m wondering if there is a way to adjust any settings or code somewhere so that I’m able to modify the size and layout of images in the Extra field to whatever I want (sometimes they’re too big, too small, etc.) without my changes being overridden with each AnkiHub update, but in a way that still allows me to receive content/text info updates to those fields as they come?

I’ve already tweaked the max image height x width settings in the card template/Anking Note Types add-on. While that helped a little, obvi every card has a different layout, length of content, and/or amount of images included, so tweaking those settings can only do so much.

The reason I want this is because, using this card as an example:

if I wanted to add my own images/text to my protected Lecture Notes field (which I keep “open”), the card as a whole ends up too long, preventing all fields from being visible on 1 screen (which is how I like all my cards to look).

Even if I make the protected image I added as small as possible, the whole card is still not visible on 1 screen due to the size of the Extra field image:

An ideal scenario would be like below, where both images are resized (and stay resized) so the entire card is visible on 1 screen - obviously without losing the ability to receive updated content:

The example above is easier to fix with max image height/width adjustments in the settings, as there is only 1 pic included in the Extra field, but for cards with 3-5 images or a table, it’s kind of impossible. It just sucks shrinking or enlarging images as I see fit, only for those adjustments to go away a day or a week or month later with the next update… It would be very cool to have a way to “lock” size adjustments in any field (protected or not) while maintaining the ability to receive informational content updates in those same fields.

I’m sorry this is long, and I hope what I’m asking makes sense, even though I doubt it’s possible. Figured I’d ask anyway in the event anyone has suggestions or any further specific setting adjustments I can make to achieve a similar result.

Hello,

I’m sorry to report that the short version is that there’s not a way to create a fixed value here without protecting the field.

You could, in theory, edit the note type but this is likely to run into the same, or similar, issues (and, as you noted, not all images are of the same size, dimensions, or formatting). The inherent quandary is: allow Ankihub to update the field, or no?

As long as Ankihub can update the field, you’re at risk of losing any alterations you make. If you protect the field, you preserve your edits but lose the ability to receive updates. The closest solution seems to be the one you already found, via the Anking Note Types, addon; that’s likely to be as close as you’ll get to achieving this level of specificity.

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

I figured, but no worries. Thank you for the quick and thorough response!
