Iām not sure what caused this or why this is now happening, but whenever I try to protect certain fields (checking them in the list that pops up) and press āokā, the changes donāt actually seem to āsave.ā When I right click the same card and return to the āprotect fieldsā list, those same fields appear unchecked. the only one that remains checked is ālecture notes,ā which I modified last night anyway.
Iāll help you with this issue regarding protecting fields not saving in AnkiHub. Let me search for some relevant information first.

Reading: š Protecting Fields and Tags
I understand your frustration with the protected fields not saving. This is an issue with the AnkiHub āProtect Fieldsā feature not persisting your selections.
Based on the documentation, there are two ways to protect fields in AnkiHub:
-
Via the browser (which youāre trying to use):
- Right-clicking on cards and selecting āAnkiHub: Protect Fieldsā
- This should add special tags like
AnkiHub_Protect::FieldName
to protect specific fields
-
Via the AnkiHub website (recommended alternative):
- Go to the main page of your deck on the AnkiHub website
- Click the 3 dots in the top right corner
- Select āManage protected dataā
- Check the fields you want to protect
Since the browser method isnāt working for you, Iād recommend trying the website method instead. This applies the protection globally to all cards in the deck for the selected fields.
For the browser method, you might want to check if there are any issues with:
- AnkiHub add-on version (try updating to the latest version)
- Permissions for Ankiās temp folder (which can sometimes cause saving issues)
- After protecting fields, synchronizing with AnkiWeb to ensure changes persist
The āLecture Notesā field that remains protected was likely set as protected by default in the AnKing deck, which is why itās persisting while your new selections arenāt.
If you continue having issues, you could try manually adding the protection tags (like AnkiHub_Protect::FieldName
) to your cards, though the website method would be simpler.
Hello,
I would be happy to help.
Hmm, I canāt say that Iāve seen that issue before, or can immediately recall having anyone report it
Just to work through the obvious stuff: can you go to your top menu bar, click Anki - About Anki, and let me know what version number you have?
Can you also use AnkiHub > Help > Upload logs and post the filename shown?
After youāve checked them, does the tag still appear on the card or does it get removed (can you take a screenshot of the tags on that card as well)?
