Smart Search Not Working

Smart search is not working. I upload a pdf that is less than 25 MB, it goes through all the loading phases, and then when it’s done, no cards show up. Does anyone have any tips to mitigate this? I’ve tried quitting Anki, restarting my computer, changing the format of the slides, and re-uploading the slides.

I’ll help you troubleshoot the Smart Search issue you’re experiencing with your PDF uploads. Let me search for relevant information on this topic.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with the Smart Search feature. Based on your description, you’ve already tried several troubleshooting steps including restarting Anki, restarting your computer, and trying different file formats - which are all good first steps.

Since Smart Search is a feature of AnkiHub Premium that uses AI to match your learning materials with relevant cards, there could be a few reasons why no cards are showing up:

Possible solutions to try:

  1. Check your PDF content: Make sure your PDF contains searchable text. Some PDFs may be image-based or scanned, which might not be properly read by the system.

  2. Verify file size: While you mentioned your file is under the 25MB limit, try with an even smaller file to test if that works.

  3. Try a different file format: If you have the source material in another format (PowerPoint, Word, etc.), try uploading that instead of the PDF.

  4. Check your subscription: Ensure your AnkiHub Premium subscription is active and not expired.

  5. Network connection: Make sure you have a stable internet connection when using Smart Search, as it requires connecting to AnkiHub’s servers.

  6. Add-on conflicts: Try disabling other add-ons temporarily to see if there’s a conflict (hold down the shift key when starting Anki).

  7. Browser compatibility: If you’re using the web version, try a different browser.

If you’ve already attempted all of these solutions, I recommend reaching out directly to the AnkiHub support team as they may need to investigate your specific account setup.

For reference, you can learn more about Smart Search in the official documentation: :robot: What is Smart Search?

Have you tried using Smart Search with other files previously, and did those work correctly?

I’ve tried uploading previous files that I know worked to smart search and it still is not working. I have tried changing the file format, condensing it to very small files, and have made sure everything is readable. It is still not working.

I’ll search for more information about troubleshooting Smart Search specifically when no cards appear after uploading.

I’m sorry you’re continuing to experience issues with Smart Search even after trying several troubleshooting steps. Since the feature still isn’t working despite uploading files that worked previously, this suggests there might be a deeper issue that needs technical support.

Possible reasons why Smart Search might not be working:

  1. Add-on version: Ensure you’re running the latest version of the AnkiHub add-on
  2. Subscription status: There might be an issue with your premium subscription status
  3. Server-side issues: There could be temporary problems with the AnkiHub AI services
  4. App permissions: The add-on might not have proper permissions to communicate with AnkiHub servers
  5. Account synchronization: Your local account might need to be properly synced with AnkiHub’s servers

What to do next:

Since you’ve already tried the basic troubleshooting steps (restarting, different file formats, smaller files, previously working files), this appears to be an issue that needs direct support from the AnkiHub team.

According to the official documentation, the best way to get help with AnkiHub Premium issues is to:

  1. Email the support team: Contact them directly at support@ankihub.net
  2. Include details: In your email, provide information about:
    • When the problem started
    • What specific steps you’ve already tried
    • Your AnkiHub account email
    • What version of Anki and the AnkiHub add-on you’re using
    • A screenshot of what happens during the Smart Search process

The support team should be able to investigate account-specific issues that might be preventing Smart Search from working properly.

Would you like me to suggest any additional troubleshooting steps to try before contacting support?

Hello,

This issue has just been reported by other users too. The developers are aware of this issue and are actively working on a solution. Unfortunately I can’t provide a specific timeline for a fix yet.

Please let me know if you need help with anything else in the meantime.

Thank you very much!
