Why does my smart search not let me filter to study based on EOR or topic? For example I am studying Psych. I pull up the questions, but when I go to study it I get given questions that are from family med (FM). Any advice? This is for the Anki Endeavor

Reading: Smart Search Not Working
Thanks for the details â that helps narrow things down.
For Anki Endeavor smart search specifically, a couple of things commonly cause what youâre describing (getting FM when you want Psych):
-
Check your search/tag criteria in the browser first
- In Anki, open Browse.
- Run the same search that Smart Search is using (e.g., the tag or field for Psych or that specific EOR).
- Confirm:
- Only Psych / that EORâs cards are actually returned.
- The FM cards youâre seeing in review are not included in that browser search.
- If FM cards show up in the browser search, there may be:
- Mis-tagged cards (Psych + FM both on the same note).
- A search thatâs too broad (e.g., searching
Psych OR somethinginstead of only Psych).
-
Make sure youâre filtering by note-level tags/fields Endeavor expects
- Many curated AnkiHub decks (like AnKing Overhaul / Anki Endeavor) use specific tag structures for:
- System (e.g.,
Endeavor::Psych) - Exam or block (e.g.,
Endeavor::EOR::Psychor similar)
- System (e.g.,
- If Smart Search is designed to filter by those exact tags, but:
- Youâre using a different tag, or
- Cards werenât fully updated/synced from AnkiHub,
then the deck might mix in unrelated cards (like FM).
- Many curated AnkiHub decks (like AnKing Overhaul / Anki Endeavor) use specific tag structures for:
-
Check that your Endeavor deck is fully updated from AnkiHub
- In Anki desktop:
- Go to AnkiHub â Manage Shared Decks.
- Make sure:
- The Anki Endeavor deck is subscribed.
- Youâve recently clicked Sync / Apply changes so you have the latest tags/fields and Smart Search behavior.
- Outdated tagging or fields can cause Smart Search to pull the wrong material.
- In Anki desktop:
-
Confirm which scheduler / filtered deck settings Smart Search is using
- Some âsmart searchâ workflows:
- Create a filtered deck behind the scenes based on a search string.
- Open that filtered deckâs settings and check:
- The Search line â does it clearly restrict to Psych or the Psych EOR tag?
- If it includes something broad like the whole Endeavor deck without a tag limit, FM will sneak in.
- Some âsmart searchâ workflows:
-
If nothing obvious stands out
- Itâs possible thereâs a bug or misconfiguration specific to the Endeavor Smart Search template (e.g., a wrong tag hardcoded for that topic).
- In that case, it will help to post (either here or in a followâup reply):
- A screenshot of the Smart Search settings / selection youâre using (Psych / which EOR).
- The exact search string you see in:
- The filtered deck Smart Search creates, or
- The browser when you try to replicate it.
If you share:
- What you click in Smart Search (e.g., âPsych â X EORâ), and
- What the corresponding search string looks like in the browser or filtered deck,
I can help you pinpoint whether itâs tag setup, search logic, or something with the Endeavor configuration on AnkiHub.
Hello,
I would be happy to help. ![]()
I canât say Iâve used the Anki Endeavor deck myself, as itâs not a deck that is maintained by the AnkiHub team. Can you share a bit more detail about the specific difficulties youâre running into?
In particular, what are the âquestionsâ that youâre referring to pulling up?
The more context you can share the easier it may be to be of help. Screenshots are ideal, if you can, just so I can see what youâre seeing
