Hi Elistarr,
Welcome to AnkiHub and thanks for reaching out! I understand you’re having an issue where the card ID shown in Smart Search results doesn’t match what’s in your deck.
This is actually normal behavior with AnkiHub. The Smart Search feature is part of AnkiHub Premium and works by searching through the content of cards in the AnkiHub database. When you see a card ID in Smart Search results, it’s referencing AnkiHub’s internal ID system for cards, which is different from the ID Anki assigns to cards in your local collection.
When you download a deck like AnKing Step Deck to your local Anki, each card gets assigned a new local ID by Anki. This local ID will be different from the original AnkiHub ID shown in Smart Search results.
You can still use Smart Search effectively by focusing on the content matches rather than trying to match IDs between systems.
If you’d like to learn more about using Smart Search, you can check out this FAQ about Smart Search which includes a tutorial.
Is there a specific reason you’re trying to match the IDs between Smart Search and your deck? I might be able to provide additional guidance based on what you’re trying to accomplish.
I’m trying to unsuspend cards using my premium subscription, but when I click add to my learning queue it says they are unsuspended but I sync and they are not. When I copy the cards and open with browser I also can’t open any cards to manually unsuspend. Very frustrating.
I’ll help you with this unsuspending issue with your AnKing Step Deck. Let me search for some relevant information.

Hi Elistarr,
I understand your frustration with unsuspending cards from Smart Search. Let me help you with this issue:
The Problem
When you try to add cards to your learning queue using Smart Search, they appear to be unsuspended in the interface, but they don’t actually show up in your deck after syncing.
Why This Happens
The AnKing Step Deck has all cards suspended by default. When using Smart Search to unsuspend cards, there might be a sync issue between the AnkiHub web interface and your local Anki installation.
Solutions
-
Manual Unsuspending in Anki:
- Open Anki
- Go to Browse (shortcut: B)
- In the left sidebar, navigate to the Tags section
- Find the tag corresponding to the cards you want (e.g., #AK_Step1_V12)
- Select the cards you want to unsuspend
- Right-click and select “Toggle Suspend” (shortcut: Ctrl+J or Command+J on Mac)
-
Sync Issues:
- Make sure you’re completely synced before and after using Smart Search
- Try closing and reopening Anki after syncing
- Check if your AnkiHub add-on is up to date
-
Browser Access Issue:
- If you can’t open cards in the browser, this suggests there might be an issue with your Anki installation or the deck import
- Try restarting Anki
- Verify the AnkiHub add-on is properly installed and updated
Additional Help
You might find this helpful: Why does my AnKing Step Deck have 0 cards? - This explains that all cards in the AnKing Step Deck are suspended by default and shows how to unsuspend them manually.
If these steps don’t resolve your issue, please let me know:
- Which version of Anki you’re using
- Which version of the AnkiHub add-on you have installed
- Whether you’re using AnkiHub on desktop or mobile
This will help me provide more specific guidance for your situation.
Solution!
I had used anki/ankihub previously on an old device. I started new except for my ankiweb account, which downloaded an old anking step deck on my device before I deleted it completely.
For some reason the entire anking deck was not downloading, so I deleted it after unsubscribing, deleted all the tags, and then re-subscribed and that seemed to do the trick.
I’ll search for relevant information to help understand this resolution.

I’m glad you found a solution to your issue, Elistarr!
What you experienced is actually a common scenario when working with AnkiHub and pre-existing Anki accounts. Here’s what happened and why your solution worked:
Why Your Solution Worked
When you have an existing AnkiWeb account with a previous version of the AnKing Step Deck, it can create conflicts with a new AnkiHub subscription. The old deck data in your AnkiWeb account was interfering with the proper download of the full AnkiHub deck.
By following these steps:
- Unsubscribing from the deck in AnkiHub
- Deleting the deck completely from Anki
- Cleaning up all associated tags
- Re-subscribing to the deck
You essentially gave yourself a clean slate for AnkiHub to work with, allowing it to properly download and sync the complete deck.
For Future Reference
If you or others encounter similar issues in the future:
- The process you followed is the recommended approach
- There’s an official tutorial on How to Delete an AnkiHub Deck that can be helpful
- Always make sure to clean up all associated tags when removing a deck to prevent conflicts
Using Smart Search
Now that you have the deck properly installed, you should be able to use Smart Search effectively to find and unsuspend the cards you need for your studies.
Happy studying with your properly functioning AnKing Step Deck! If you encounter any other issues with AnkiHub or Smart Search, feel free to ask.
