Smart Seach Not Unsuspending Cards

I use the AnKing step deck to study and today I am starting to study again so I tried using the smart search to unsuspend certain topics. However I have tried multiple times on the application and through the web with different cards and they remain suspended. How do I fix this?

I see you’re having trouble with the Smart Search feature not unsuspending cards in the AnKing Step deck. Let me help you troubleshoot this issue.

What might be happening

Smart Search is designed to help you find relevant cards based on your study materials, but there are a few reasons why the cards might not be unsuspending as expected:

  1. You might need to manually unsuspend the cards after finding them with Smart Search
  2. There might be a view issue where it’s difficult to see which cards are suspended/unsuspended
  3. You might need to refresh your deck after using Smart Search

How to fix the issue

Here’s what you can try:

  1. After using Smart Search, manually unsuspend the cards:

    • In the browser, select the cards found by Smart Search
    • Right-click and select “Toggle Suspend” or use the keyboard shortcut (usually Ctrl+J)
    • Make sure you’re in “Cards” view, not “Notes” view (this is important)
  2. Check your view settings:

    • In the browser, make sure the dropdown near the top shows “Cards” and not “Notes”
    • This allows you to see the suspension status of individual cards
  3. Try the traditional method to unsuspend cards:

    • Go to the browser
    • On the left side, navigate to tags
    • Find the tags for topics you want to study (like #AK_Step1_V12)
    • Select cards and right-click → Toggle Suspend
  4. Refresh your deck view:

    • After unsuspending cards, go back to the deck screen
    • Click on the gear icon and select “Rebuild”

If you’ve tried all these steps and are still experiencing issues, it might be a bug with the Smart Search feature. In that case, I’d recommend:

  1. Make sure your AnkiHub add-on is updated to the latest version
  2. Try restarting Anki completely
  3. If the problem persists, you can email support@ankihub.net for direct assistance

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

Just so I’m on the same page, can you give me a bit more detail as to what you’re seeing?

Specifically, are you certain that the cards have not been unsuspended, or only that they are not appearing for study?

And, either way, can you help me understand how you’ve determined that, just so I have a solid idea as to what we’re working with so I know best how to be of help

Screenshots are ideal, if you can, just so I can see what you’re seeing.

I use the smart search and go to the sections that I need unsuspended and select them. It says they are unsuspended then I sync my anki again to load them in and nothing happens. They do not unsuspend when I look at the browse or stats.

Gotcha, thanks for that additional context.

Can you let me know which tag/s you were attempting to unsuspend? I can give it a shot on my end and see if I’m able to recreate the issue, and that should help narrow down what the potential causes may be

Step 1>first aid>biochem>molecular>chromatin structure and nucleotides
However I have tried with boards and beyond tags for random topics to see if it was not working for just what I needed and they wouldn’t unsuspend

Give this a try and let me know if it works:

Once you’ve selected the tag/s you want, rather than ‘add to study queue’ click on ‘Open selected in browser’ here:

Once the Browse screen comes up, command+A to select all of the cards, then command+J to unsuspend them.

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

Hey thanks for the solution. Just letting you know I’m having similar problem on my end through Smart Search and had to manually unsuspend them

Gotcha, thanks for letting us know. I went ahead and let the developers know and they’re actively working on a solution

In the meantime, the manual method should be a viable workaround and hopefully they can get the feature up and running sooner rather than later.
