Hi I was curious if there is a way to change the styling and make it permanent. For instance, I want the font smaller and to be times new roman, but whenever I changed it and exit out the anki app, it reverts back to the original styling. I want to change the styling to stay permanent but also keep getting updated cards.

Styling in AnkiHub: How to Make Permanent Font Changes
Hi there! When you’re using AnkiHub and want to make permanent styling changes like changing the font size and type to Times New Roman, there are a couple of important things to understand.
If You’re Using AnkiHub Decks (as a subscriber)
When you subscribe to decks on AnkiHub, styling updates come from the deck creator. This means that any local styling changes you make will be overwritten when the deck updates.
Here are your options:
-
Export a copy of the deck: If you want to make permanent styling changes, you can export a copy of the deck and modify it. However, you would no longer receive updates from AnkiHub for this copy.
-
Contact the deck creator: You can suggest styling changes to the deck creator through the AnkiHub community.
If You Own/Create the AnkiHub Deck
If you’re the creator of the deck, you can update the styling and push those changes to all subscribers:
- Make the font changes to your note type locally in Anki
- Open the AnkiHub add-on
- Click on “Deck Management”
- Select your deck
- Go to “Note Types” section
- Click “Publish style/template updates”
- Confirm by clicking “Yes” when prompted
Your subscribers will receive these styling changes the next time they sync.
For Regular Anki (Non-AnkiHub)
If you’re using regular Anki without AnkiHub, you can make permanent styling changes by:
- Going to Browse → select a card → Cards button
- In the styling section, add your font preferences:
.card { font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 14px; }
Would you like more specific guidance based on whether you’re a deck creator or subscriber?
I would like to have the styling change to be permanent while getting updates though
I’ll search for more information about making styling changes permanent while still receiving AnkiHub updates.

Working with Custom Styling While Receiving AnkiHub Updates
Thank you for clarifying what you’re looking for. When using AnkiHub, it can be challenging to maintain custom styling while still receiving content updates, as these updates often include styling changes from the deck creator.
Current Limitations in AnkiHub
Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in way in AnkiHub to have permanent custom styling while continuing to receive content updates. This is because:
- When a deck creator pushes styling updates, they typically override any custom styling you’ve made
- AnkiHub is designed to keep subscribers’ decks consistent with the creator’s vision
Possible Workarounds
Here are some options you might consider:
1. Use Anki Add-ons for Styling
Some Anki add-ons like “Custom Background Image and Gear Icon” or other styling add-ons can apply styling changes that aren’t tied to the note type itself. These might persist through updates.
2. Create a Copy of the Note Type
You could:
- Create a copy of the note type used by the AnkiHub deck
- Apply your styling changes to this copy
- Change the note type of your cards to this custom version
Note: This may cause issues with future updates and requires careful management of your cards.
3. Apply Styling via Browser Console
For advanced users, you could use Anki’s debug console to apply custom CSS that overrides the default styling when cards are rendered.
4. Request Feature from AnkiHub Team
Consider suggesting a feature to the AnkiHub team that would allow subscribers to maintain certain custom styling preferences while still receiving content updates.
Best Current Approach
The most reliable approach right now would be to:
- Make a backup of your entire collection
- Try option #2 (creating a copy of the note type)
- Test how this works with subsequent updates
Would you like more specific instructions for any of these workarounds?
Hello,
For that, you’ll need this add-on: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/952691989
Then, just access it through the “AnKing” option on the Anki main screen, and you will see this new menu.
Let me know if you need any more help with it!
