Upon updating the Anking Step 1 Deck recently, it appears that the tags that I added to some of the Anking cards are deleted. I carefully tagged all the cards that pertain to certain lectures and blocks at my school, as I pair Anking with my in-house lectures and exam preparation.
Going back to retag and locate the cards that pertain to each lecture would be a major detriment to me, and I would greatly appreciate it if someone would please help me with this matter.
Yes, you will need to protect your personal tags. You can create a main tag and place all your other tags inside it. That way, if you protect the main tag, all its subtags will also be protected. You can find a tutorial on how to do that here: How to Protect Personal Tags from being Overwritten
To undo the deletion, you can try restoring your collection from a backup. Please restore from a backup created before this incident occurred, and then protect the tags before updating the deck again. Here’s a guide on how to restore from a backup: How to Restore from Backup
A backup will, by definition, restore your entire collection. Anki, at least, doesn’t have a way to restore only one deck from your collection
In theory, I suppose it would be possible to restore from a backup, export a single deck, then restore from a more current backup, then import that deck that you exported
But, that’s complete conjecture on my part and I can’t say that I can guarantee either way that it’s possible or that we’d be of much help there beyond noting that, in theory, it might be possible.
Beyond that, Anki’s restore-from-a-backup feature will restore your entire collection as a rule.
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
