TTS Audio Stops Mid-Sentence While Reading Cards (Front & Back) β€” Anyone Else Experiencing This?

Hi everyone,

I’m running into an issue where Anki’s built-in TTS starts reading the card but then abruptly stops mid-sentence. This happens on both the front and back of the card, and it seems to occur randomly while the audio is playing.

Environment

  • Anki Desktop (latest version)

  • Using AnkiHub-managed AnKing note types

  • TTS enabled via the card template

  • Cards synced through AnkiHub

Symptoms

  • TTS begins normally

  • After ~1–3 seconds, the audio cuts off

  • Sometimes restarting the card lets it finish, sometimes not

  • Happens on both front and back TTS playback

Things I’ve already tried

  1. Removed the AMBOSS script snippet that had previously been present in the template:

  1. Restarted Anki after removing the script.

  2. Checked add-ons that might affect card rendering. Current enabled add-ons include:

  • Advanced Browser

  • Anki Terminator V2 – ChatGPT DeepSeek Sidebar

  • Change Interface Font

  • Clickable Tags v20

  • Colorful Tags – Hierarchical Tags

  • Image Occlusion Enhanced

  • More Decks Stats and Time Left

  • Multi search using a list of words

  • Remaining time for Anki

  • Review Heatmap

  • Review Lookup – Search and Popup cards by selected text

  • Search Stats Extended

  • Study Time Stats

  • Tag Statistics – cards statistics by Tag

  • The KING of Button Add-ons

(Several others are installed but disabled.)

  1. The issue still occurs even when the AMBOSS add-on itself is disabled.

Current TTS Code in Card Template

Here is what I currently have in the TTS section of the card template:

(Text is the field containing the card content.)


Questions

  1. Has anyone else experienced TTS cutting off mid-sentence with AnkiHub cards?

  2. Are there any known add-on conflicts with TTS in the reviewer?

  3. Is there a recommended way to implement TTS in AnkiHub-managed templates so it isn’t interrupted?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated if someone else has run into this with the AnKing + AnkiHub setup.

Hello,

Starting Anki in safe mode will temporarily disable all add-ons. To do this, open Anki while holding down the Shift key. See if the error persists even when all add-ons are disabled.

Ahh okay, seems like one of my add ons is affecting it. Looks like ill have to tease through all of them. Thank you!

After disabling groups of add-ons and restarting Anki between tests, the TTS interruption completely stopped when the following add-ons were disabled:

  • Anki Remote – Customize

  • Clickable Tags v20

  • Image Occlusion Enhanced

  • Tag Statistics – card statistics by Tag (Fixed by Shige)
