How to stop TTS turning off

Hi

So when I edit the card type to turn on TTS it works but if I sync or restart it will undo my edits and make me turn TTS back on. Is there anyway to keep TTS always on in the card editor?

This is happening because AnkiHub is overwriting your local card type changes when you sync.

On AnkiHub decks, card templates (including TTS settings) are managed on the server side. When you:

  1. Turn TTS on in the Card Types screen
  2. Then sync (or restart, which triggers sync)

AnkiHub applies the shared templates again, which removes your local change.

At the moment there isn’t a way to make that TTS toggle “stick” only locally while still keeping the note type fully managed by AnkiHub.

You have three practical options:

  1. Use the default AnkiHub templates as-is

    • Keep syncing normally and accept that TTS will be off if that’s how the shared note type is set.
  2. Create a local copy of the note type for personal use

    • In Anki, go to:
Tools → Manage Note Types → (select your AnkiHub note type) → Add → Add: clone
    • Use this cloned note type for the cards where you always want TTS on.
    • Since this clone is not linked to AnkiHub, your TTS setting will persist, but:
      • It will not receive further template/field updates from AnkiHub.
      • You’d need to manually move cards to this note type if desired.
  3. Request a template change on the shared deck

    • If you’re using an official AnkiHub deck (e.g., AnKing Overhaul), you can open a feature request asking maintainers to:
      • Add TTS to the official template, or
      • Make a TTS-enabled optional card type.
    • Link the deck and describe exactly which card type/fields you’re using TTS for.

If you tell me which deck and note type you’re using, I can suggest more specific steps (e.g., whether cloning is low-risk for you or if it’s better to request a change from the maintainers).

Hello,

  1. Please download and install the AnKing Note Types add-on: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/952691989
  2. After it’s installed, restart Anki.

Then, go to AnKing > AnKing Note Types, turn the TTS on, and save your settings.
