i constantly add cards to this deck… but i just went through about 100 of them and they all said 6hours as their next good interval… this is incorrect because I have seen them before and it should only give me the first interval the first time i see the card… what is going on?

It sounds like you’re experiencing an issue with the learning steps of your cards. Based on what you’re describing, your cards are showing a 6-hour interval when you press “Good,” even though you’ve seen them before.

This behavior typically occurs when cards are in the learning or relearning phase in Anki. Here’s what might be happening:

Possible causes:

  1. Cards still in learning phase: When you add new cards to a deck, they start with the learning steps you’ve configured in your deck options. By default, there are often 2 steps (1 minute and 10 minutes), but many users customize these.

  2. Cards being reset: If you’ve previously marked cards as “Again” (failed), they re-enter the learning steps.

  3. Deck settings: Your deck might be configured with a learning step of 6 hours, which is why all cards are showing this interval.

How to check:

  1. Look at card info: When reviewing a card, press I on your keyboard or right-click and select “Info” to see the card’s history. This will show you whether the card is new, learning, or review.

  2. Check your deck options:

    • Look at your learning steps
    • Check the graduating interval
    • Check if the “Hard” interval is set to 6 hours

Solutions:

  1. If they’re truly new cards: They should progress through your learning steps normally.

  2. If they’re cards you’ve seen before but reset: They’ll behave like new cards again.

  3. If you want to graduate them immediately: You can use the “Easy” button which will immediately convert learning cards into review cards, skipping remaining learning steps.

Let me know if you need help checking your deck settings or determining the exact status of these cards!

Hello,

Are you using FSRS?

Also, could you please share a screenshot of a card showing that interval, as well as a screenshot of your deck settings? That will help me better understand what’s going on!

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

I’m not sure which deck it is to which you’re adding cards, but in 99.9% of cases your learning steps are defined by your deck settings

If that’s what your learning steps are set to, which sounds like it is likely the case, then that is correct.

Particularly if they are all doing the same thing, it’s quite likely that this is the correct behavior based on your current settings.

If you’d like to change those settings, though, you can change the learning steps to whatever you would like for them to be. 5 minutes, 2 hours, 50 days, etc. You can define whichever, and however many, learning steps you like.

I’ve also gone ahead and linked here to the section of the Anki manual that discusses learning steps, in the event that it’s helpful: Deck Options - Anki Manual

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Baaaaah. I’m sorry @MarcosZan I saw the response notification but I thought it was just the auto-bot thing

We are often on the same wavelength.

I will disappear into the shadows now, as I am confident that you got this one. Sorry again
