Urgent Help Needed: All Media in My Anki Deck Has Disappeared!

Hi everyone,

I was using Anki earlier when something strange happened. I was doing my usual Anki reviews when it suddenly started syncing out of the blue. I noticed it was deleting around 60,000 media files. At first, I thought it might just be AnkiHub doing its thing, like updating or something, so I didn’t pay much attention.

But then I noticed that even my protected field data started disappearing. Now, all the media in my deck is completely gone. I’ve tried everything I can think of:

  • Restoring from backup: Unfortunately, no media files were recovered.
  • Following forum tips and tricks: I’ve tried almost all the suggested solutions, but nothing seems to be working.

I’ve put in hundreds of hours customizing my AnKing deck with personalized notes, screenshots, and media from all over. Losing this data is devastating.

If anyone has any advice or solutions, I would greatly appreciate your help. I’m really desperate at this point and would be thankful for any guidance.

Have you been regularly syncing from before this happened with ankiweb?

Were no backups saved at all for your deck?

thats the thing bro I regularly sync all the time.

I restored a backup and none of the media showed up.

I just did the thing where u can import media and now i have my first aid and sketchy pictures back, but of my protected fields are gone.

I have no idea whats going on lol.

I hope you figure out what’s going on, you can also try asking on the official Anki forums.

Restoring from a backup should bring back a carbon copy of your previous deck with all media and protected stuff
